Arrival Story: My boyfriend at the time (husband now) we really wanted a dog. We lived in Capitola California a little jewel box community on the ocean south of San Francisco. We were on a business trip to Lake Tahoe and on the way home I started looking through newspapers to find a boston terrier. We finally found abreeder in the Sacramento Bee. They met us at 8pm and we adopted Tanner. the tiniest most adorable baby puppy. Little Tanner was sick from the start and shortly after we learned his kidneys would never fully develop which after 10 days of IV's and feeding him with a dropper our tiny little angel died. we were devastated. We had him only a short time but the loss we felt was cruel and painful. The breeder was also very sad but had no more puppies. They offered to give us their
"bitch" they were going to breed. The pick of the litter they had saved for themselves. She was 6 months old, she was Tanners cousin and they said she looked very much like him. Her name was "Freckles Gumdrop". They drove her 3 hours to our hoime near the beach. When she arrived she was bigger the Tanner who fit in the palm of my hand. She had boundless energy and it offered us a little security that she seemed so healthy and durable. They said we could keep her on a test basis to see if we really liked her.
The first thing we did was take her to the beach. She sat on my lap while we drank martini's from a beach front cafe' and that night she slept between us and snored on her back. I had never seen a dog snore like that before and enjoyed watching her more than anything. She was so cute you could eat her.
In the morning I asked Scott if we could give her a nickname special to us. I wanted to call her Lola, ever since we would sing "her name was Lola she was a showdog..." each morning when she would wake up.
She is such a special girl she has inspired me to be the best I can be. She is always there sometimes demanding, mostly sweet.
Beacuse of Lola, and my love for her the pet industry now offers products that are more girly. Which didn't really exist until she inspired me to put it out their for a little girl with a smashed face who's name could have been Bruiser instead of Lola. Once she atrated wearing feather boas people stopped asking what's his name?
It's a really long story but what is most important is that your dog doesn't care what kind of car you drive, if you're famous or judge you by the way you look in a bikini or how much money you make. They love you for every ounce of the person you are.
I just feel lucky to be with y dogs so much that I redesigned my profession to honor them and spend more time with Lola Hogan and Henry.
