Best Tricks: Standing on his hind legs like a prairie dog and starting the Basenji 500
Arrival Story: We waited several years for the right time. Rascal's breeder doesn't breed every year and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to get a pup this year.
Bio: Rascal has tons of personality. He is a delight and we all love him dearly.
We weren't sure if he'd make it, but he is a year old and still has all his teeth..much to the irritation of the other dogs.
Forums Motto: Run with the big dogs or sit on the sofa

Boy did I have a big weekend. Mom and Dad came to get me on Saturday. We played and cuddled and I slept on the floor beside Mom the first night.
The next day, Mom and Dad put me in a yucky bag thing. I didn't like it one bit and cried all the way to the airport. Mom thought she might have to give me sleepy treats to keep me from getting us kicked off the plane, but I surprised her. The minute we got out of the car, I got quiet. I was quiet in the airport terminal and I was quiet on the first plane.
While we were waiting for the second plane, Mom and Dad let me stick my head out of the bag and stretch. That felt good. Mom gave me cool water and that made me feel better. I fell asleep several times cause Dad was rubbing my belly.
On the second plane, I was really sneaky. Nobody even knew I was on the plane...not even the flight crew. Imagine their surprise to see Mom's big bag empty and me running around on leash. I got lots of nice comments and Mom had to tell people "No, its not a cat", "No, its not a Chihuahua", and "No, its not a Jack Russell". Only one human knew I was a basenji and she was a very smart little girl. She told her mommy that I am an African barkless dog. I was quiet so she didn't know that barkless doesn't mean silent.
I like it here in Texas with Mom, Dad, Chica and Spinner.
Last weekend my breeder took me and the sibs to a lure coursing event. We watched the big dogs run and chase the bunny. Me and my brother, Minstrel, had a big time. First we had a long fun ride, then we got to strut around on leash meeting new people and dogs. Wow, did I ever think that was super fun. My sister and other brothers got all grumpy on the ride and then they were mad at having to be on leash. They silly puppies. I enjoy showing the world how cute we basenji puppies are.
My breeder sent my new Mom and Dad a message saying she's nicknamed me RATscal because I like to take her stuff. It is just a game, I give it back. The best part is I make her laugh.
My breeder tells me I'm going home to Texas in a few days. Where's Texas? Is it as big as the back yard? I'm gettin all excited cause I just know I'll get to strut my stuff there too.
I'm one day closer to my new home in Texas. My basenji mom and my current human mom are teaching me all the things a good puppy needs to know. I love to run with the big dogs and wonder if I'll have anybody to run with. I hope so. Running is fun. I'll be in Texas soon!
