Arrival Story: My husband and I had been searching for the perfect adoption for about seven months when I found Buddy on Petfinder.com - he was in a foster home an hour outside of Toronto that held adoption fairs every weekend. For the first two weeks, we couldn't go because we were preparing for a move. Every day I checked the website to see if he was still there. Once the move was finished, I promised my husband I would wait to go see Buddy until we could both go the following weekend. I broke the promise a few days later when I hopped in my car at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning and made the trek out to the adoption fair. I arrived at the fair about 10 minutes after it started and made a beeline for Buddy, not letting anybody else get a chance. All the other dogs were jumping and hyper and Buddy was just as calm as could be, even when little lab puppies crawled all over his head. Madly in love, I called my husband from the adoption fair, begging to bring him home. My husband, being a good sport, agreed. Buddy and I went to my hub's work to meet him, and having bonded thorughout the adoption process and on the hour long car ride, by the time we got to my husband's workplace, I was already the favourite. :) My husband took Buddy for a short stroll and also fell in love and Buddy's been family ever since.

Bio: Buddy was a rescue found in Oshawa. He came in with a brother who was adopted away first. The foster agency said he had been on the street and thought he was a golden retriever/cocker spaniel mix, but we think he looks like a springer spaniel. He was 10 months old when we got him. While he loved us right away, it took him some time to warm up to the rest of the world. It took about a year but now he's a happy, well-adjusted doggin.

My husband's mother believes that he is an Indigo Child. Indigo children are extra senstive individuals who are gifted with many talents but are also somewhat overwhelmed by the stresses and paces of daily life. I'm not sure if my husband is an Indigo child but I know for sure that Buddy is an Indigo dog. He is ever so sensitive. We think because of an abuse history but also I think it's just who he is. He gets mad when you raise your voice, when you walk in a strange way, or if you cough, hiccough, knock something over suddenly, or just move a little too quickly. And when he's mad, he let's you know with a huff and a glare. He doesn't move though. That would be too much work. Our favourite saying for Buddy is "the most for the least." He doesn't need to stand up to express his displeasure, exhaling loudly is enough! :)
