Arrival Story: As a child I was terrified of dogs. One day my dad came home from work and said he'd stopped in the rescue shelter and fallen in love with a puppy he'd seen who was very shy. We went and got her. To me at the age of 8 or 9 it seemed like a spur-of-the-moment decision. I was scared to death of her at first but she was also scared of people so she didn't jump up on me or anything, and after a while I grew to love her and also completely lost my fear of dogs.

Bio: We named her Zip because of the dog in my favorite series of books, The Happy Hollisters. She grew into her name because she was extremely energetic and would bound around in the yard for hours. She was always running and barking! At the time we also had a parakeet named Woody, and Zip and Woody became best friends. Woody would fly around behind Zip, and they were always together.
Zip became very sick when she was about 6 years old. We think she had cancer of the throat. The medicines the vet gave her didn't work, and my mom put her to sleep when I was fifteen. It was heartbreaking and traumatic. :(
