My Jaw Wouldn't Open

Mom tried to give me my daily pill and I yelped in pain. Then I refused any food unless it was on the floor; I would not take it from her hand. Ummmmm, that brought a trip to you-know-where. I wouldn't let the vet open my mouth either...but Mom did a little and I yelped again. Antibiotics in case of abcess and some horrible oral Medicam for a couple days and no better. Return visit to you-know-where. Discontinued antibiotics and a few more days of Medicam which I HATE. I ran away as far in the house as I could when I saw Mom get out the bottle and syringe.......then she had to pry my mouth open just a little to squirt it in and I did a doggie YUCK!

I seem better at that end, but now I have some problems at the other end......Mom says I best get over all this FAST - whatever it is - as she worries. But secretly I love the rice and hamburger though I don't think I can fake the problem that brought that delicious combination to me.......darn! I think I'm generally on the mend.

and so far all I've gotten is a new bowl with pawprints on it. Is that it? I ask you all, shouldn't I get more? I'm four, so I should get four of everything - treats, balls, four cups of food, four walks, well, I could go on and on.......I'm done whining.

The "Cousins"

One day recently these two very large black dogs showed up and we were told to be good - as if we aren't always good!! They were both females and I thought, "With Zoe to put up with at home, now we have to put up with two more girls?????" But they were okay with us and we were fine with them, though Jesse wouldn't walk past either one. Leave it to Zoe - she quickly learned to step over the girls' heads and continue on her way! Those females!

Maybe we should KEEP HER after all

I am exhibiting new positive feelings for Zoe. She's six months old now and really quite the effective playmate. I'm still alpha, of course, but she is so entertaining at times - when I choose the times!

For example, this Loop De Loop thing I taught her - she's really excellent. Why she once this week actually stood still and I ran into her. Was she trying to outsmart me, the Duster Dog? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Anyway, she doesn't take the tennis balls away from me and she allows me to sleep near Mom's head and so I'm thinking of keeping her.

For awhile yet.

It was like an old time movie with sight gags............

Yesterday Mom really had a time with all three of us. She was only trying to walk to the mailbox down near the dirt road- a normally quiet routine we do daily. First the dogs across the road we out in their yeard and that stirred our interest; Mom rounded us up from trying to get through the barbed wire fence and retreated back to the house.

Part II: With only Jess and Zoe, she later approached the mailbox again only to have a strange person walk down the road and arouse our interest and the need to tell him he was a bit close to our home - not that we'd do anything but lick the poor guy into craziness! Mom waited awhile after retrieving us and proceeded towards the mailbox.............she tied Zoe to a tree well back from the road and proceeded on figuring Jesse would, as usual, stay near her. THEN the Walking Man appeared suddenly and Jesse crawled under the barbed wire and greeted him wholeheartedly before crossing over to investigate the smells of the dogs across the road. Zoe, totally beyond herself with excitement, yanked loose from the lousy tie-up job Mom did and appeared beside the W Man. Mom had to retie him to the fence post and continue her conversation with the WMan. She then noticed Jess was loose, rounded him up, placed him on our side of the gate, closed the gate, and thought life was back to normal. Yeah!

Part III: I, Dusty, who had been in the house, had been let out unbeknownst to Mom, and appeared at the gate. Soon Jess and I both wiggled beneath the barbed wire and proceeded to investigate the smells we're never allowed to check out. What fun!!!! Mom chased us down and returned us to our property and retrieved the mail - finally. She then retrieved the Little Munchkin, Zoe, from her tied-up spot and started the walk back to the house.

Part IV: Jess was anxious to get to the house and was not around when I spotted another neighbor running Angel, the dog who needs several miles a day and is run along side their car at a slow pace. Well, she needed a warning also. I ran across the field and stopped at the fence and Zoe followed. Mom called Zoe back and being young, she listened. But I kept the strangers at bay. The car kept stopping as Angel's person thought she might have to help round me up, but it was only enticing me more. Mom kept wavinig her to go on and that things were okay. It took awhile, but she drove on slowly with Angel trotting beside her. I HAD DONE MY JOB, now I could go home, but not in a straight line - I had to check out things onthe way.

Part V: For some reason MOM was exhausted when we ALL got back to the house and a bit out of sorts that her mac and cheese had burned and her oven was a mess and the house was smoky and she said she needed a rest...............She relayed all this excitement to Dad who had no idea this drama was unfolding...............Mom walked away and tried to salvage dinner and then took a nap. We left her alone. I think that was wise.

Everything is on Dogster

Imagine my mom's surprise and delight when she read the new Dogster Blog and found there was a Pittsburgh Steeler Fans club available. I KNOW, we live in Colorado, so what's the story? Seems Mom and Dad were born and lived most of their lives in western PA and enjoyed the glory years and all the super bowl wins of the Steelers, so Mom immediately joined and now all of us have to get our Terrible Towel pictures on the group page. Hee Hee...Zoe's photo right now is the really dumb one Mom made this morning - of her as a tiny leperchaun..........BOL. Mom says now she has to send Terrible Towel photos to the group ASAP.

Mom and Dad's niece knows the breeder in PA from whom Big Ben got his rottie, Zeus.

There are probably a lot of folks who might read this and not know what a Terrible Towel is, or what One for the Thumb means, or who Big Ben is and not really care. But they might be interested in hig DOG because we're all here for the love of dogs, right?

Feeling better

It's been a long day for my woozy tummy, but I'm on the mend. Not sure, but Mom thinks I stole chicken flavored chew bones from Zoe and Jesse and ate too many last night. That mot so bright pup of a Zoe just ups and walks away from her chewie and must think I'm going to just, like, ignore it? Not. She'll have to learn faster to outwit me.

Not such a great day for my tummy

I don't know why I don't feel good today - I've upchucked three times. Mom stayed home - not from work, she's retired - to keep an eye on me. Guess this means hamburger and rice for supper. She always gives me that when I throw up my food. Actually I like it....not that I want to be sick to get it, but...

Even Zoe is being quiet for a change. Wonder how long that will last? Maybe she senses I'm not well. And Jess is always good.

Loop de loop

Hi, It's March already. As the alpha (but Mom claims just an overgrown puppy of three+), I decided it was time to teach the real pup, Zoe Noel, how to Loop de Loop in ther house. Sometimes I do it outside, but I really enjoy it most inside.

So I began to run counterclockwise through the kitchen, dining room, and front hall and repeat, when Zoe joined in with great enthusiasm. We Looped for a number of times and then, lo and behold, Jesse joined us and we THUNDERED around and around until Mom said she was dizzy and Dad said the house might cave in!

Since I have a new hip I can't continue this forever and ever, so I quit and Zoe piled into me and then Jesse into her and then we all stood there with our tongues hanging out and it was GREAT FUN!

After some water, I reconsidered and decided maybe Zoe makes a good Looping partner...........she can't outpace me YET and Lord knows, she'll follow ANYTHING. Good Day to all. Have fun Loop de Looping in your house.

Corrections abound

Dusty's mom here. I corrected the typos on Dusty's page - didn't want people to think he was not smart. After he read it, he pointed out I should really be more careful and not try to type so fast.

Dusty: We didn't do anything exciting today. We're preparing for tomorrow's big game; Mom has her genuine Terrible Towel draped over the TV screen and Dad has his sweatshirt ready. If I end up with the Towel, I'll assume things didn't go well.
