Arrival Story: Safa was found wandering in the high desert of So. Calif. A good samaritan pulled two males off of her. She was in heat and they were viciously attacking her. They almost ripped her foot off her leg. Safa came to me exactly one week after my beloved #1 boxer died, and I was not ready for another---yet! Safa had had several litters of puppies, and I could tell she was someone's dog...very well behaved and reserved, but someone had been very strict with her. Many wonderful people who love boxers and dogs in general donated money to boxer rescue for Safa's leg to be fixed, but when I took her to the orthopedic surgeon, he told me to forget about the surgery: she had a congenital heart defect and it was mid-to-serious. I did not want to keep Safa because I didn't want to go through such heartbreak so soon, but I just HAD to keep her. And so it goes...Safa actually saved me, not the other way arouund. Safa is such a quiet, lethargic girl with a big heart and a quick, waggly tail stump. Yuki and I love love love! her. She is so well-behaved, it's amazing.
In addition to her very bad injury (she still limps to this day) and her heart disease, poor Safa also has CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE, hip dysplasia, and VERRY bad skin allergies. Our girl deserves the best!

Bio: For such a sick girl, SAFA has the BIGGEST HEART of any dog I think I've ever met. She has soooo many strikes against her, yet she is happy for the littlest things, doesn't "ask" for much and has behaved perfectly from the day I brought her home on June 16th, 2003. SAFA was named in rescue, and it apparently means "peace' in Turkish. And she is definitely a peaceful presence in our house. Lastly, I'd like to smack the previous owner of Safa for a) being so hard on her, b) treating her like a puppy machine, and c) being either so neglectful or cruel that she escaped or was released somewhere to suffer such a serious injury to her leg and her psyche. Safa displays none of the carefree boxer attributes such as curiosity and a sense of humor and she never plays. It is sad because this is what's so incredible about this breed.
