As was previously reported in a diary entry, Hank developed Lymphoma and in January 2009, started chemotherapy. At first it appeared he was in remission, but it didn't hold and after another, different chemo, and still no remission, I decided to not put him through any more suffering.

He basically "told" me this morning that he was tired, so I honored a promise I had mad that I wouldn't prolong his suffering and this morning I honored that promise!

Some day in the future, a new adoptee will likely appear here, but until Hank is properly mourned, that will have to wait.

Hi everyone; I'm back!....UPDATE on 2/25/09...

As I promised, my human dad is informing you that I am now in "partial" remission; and the vet says that by my next appointment I may be in full remission!!! Yeaaahhhhh!

All of that medicine is no fun, but I'm glad that I'm starting to feel more like my old self. So, I'll let you know what happens!!

Hank

I just want everyone to know that I haven't been active here for some time because I've been a little under the weather - not because I'm ignoring you!

My humans (big boy talk for mommy and daddy!! ;-)) have been taking good care of me and between them and the vets, I'm making progress! You see, I got this stupid cancer (lymphoma), and the chemo medicine sometimes makes me feel like words I'm not allowed to say (or bark, for that matter), but lately, I'm having more good days than bad ones!!

So, I'll get my daddy to log on occasionally and tell me what he sees, and to let you doggies know what's going on!!

Till later,

Love,

Hank

More about my dislike for having my nails trimmed!!

Well, my daddy volunteers at an animal rescue place and a lady there told him that she used a small "dremel-like" thing on her dogs...and they didn't mind too much!

Guess what? He now does the same thing.....every weekend with my regular "toilette" (ear cleaning, teeth brushing, pad treatment with Bag Balm), he uses this thing with a sandpaper disk on it and it works great! It doesn't scare me and he can do it every weekend....which, by the way, is necessary to gradually get my nails down to a good length (so the sensitive "quick" isn't exposed). Eventually, I hope they can be at the ideal length.

So, my dogster friends, don't give up hope; where there's a will (or NEED), there's always hope!

Love,

Hank

Although I'm not much over 4 years old, before my parents found me, I didn't have good oral hygiene (I just learned that word from my dadddy!). And, although my daddy did a good job of using an electric toothbrush on my teeth, he still couldn't get all the tartar off.

Well, I recently had to go to my Vet/Dentist and when you go there, they give you a shot and you go to sleep.....and when I woke up, WOW, was my mouth and gums sore!!! And, it took me nearly two days to get my energy back and finally get to eat my 'kibble' again! But I gradually did get back to normal and back to my "pigging out" routine!

But, over all, it wasn't too bad, because I now have great looking teeth and it's easier for my daddy to keep the tartar off by regular brushing (by the way, by him using an electric - actually a Sonic type thing, my gums and mouth "tickle" and I don't really mind it at all).

Well, that's all for now, but I'll write again to let you know how I overcame the fear of having my nails clipped!

Bye,

Hank
