 Quick Bio:
Likes: Long walks, treats, and the Dog Park nearby; having his head scratched & massaged.

Pet-Peeves: Not too fond of having his nails clipped; doesn't love to be groomed by groomer!

Favorite Toy: A beat up brown stuffed octopus (now defuncto!); currently a new "squeaky" thing totally unlike his first one!

Favorite Food: A lamb and rice mixture treat!

Favorite Walk: Dog park, and more recently, a large unfenced field where he can run and play forever.....

Best Tricks: He now rolls over, plays dead, "sneezes" on command, "leaves it" (treats) until told "ok", when told to come, watches for hand signal to "come around" (circles me and then lays down)...still learning!

Arrival Story: He was living in a rescue place for over 3 months...and they were having trouble placing him. When I first met him, he did NOT like me (or at least he didn't show it), but after visiting him 3 times, I decided we needed each other; so, when I went to pick him up, his reaction was, "what took you so long, sir - I've been waiting for you forever, it seems".....and the rest of the bonding was wonderful!

Bio: He was living at Pets In Need, a shelter in Redwood City, CA, whose policy is to NEVER put an animal to sleep....no matter how long it takes to place them!

Forums Motto: Current favorite snack - baby carrots!

Well, my daddy volunteers at an animal rescue place and a lady there told him that she used a small "dremel-like" thing on her dogs...and they didn't mind too much!
Guess what? He now does the same thing.....every weekend with my regular "toilette" (ear cleaning, teeth brushing, pad treatment with Bag Balm), he uses this thing with a sandpaper disk on it and it works great! It doesn't scare me and he can do it every weekend....which, by the way, is necessary to gradually get my nails down to a good length (so the sensitive "quick" isn't exposed). Eventually, I hope they can be at the ideal length.
So, my dogster friends, don't give up hope; where there's a will (or NEED), there's always hope!
Love,
Hank

Although I'm not much over 4 years old, before my parents found me, I didn't have good oral hygiene (I just learned that word from my dadddy!). And, although my daddy did a good job of using an electric toothbrush on my teeth, he still couldn't get all the tartar off.
Well, I recently had to go to my Vet/Dentist and when you go there, they give you a shot and you go to sleep.....and when I woke up, WOW, was my mouth and gums sore!!! And, it took me nearly two days to get my energy back and finally get to eat my 'kibble' again! But I gradually did get back to normal and back to my "pigging out" routine!
But, over all, it wasn't too bad, because I now have great looking teeth and it's easier for my daddy to keep the tartar off by regular brushing (by the way, by him using an electric - actually a Sonic type thing, my gums and mouth "tickle" and I don't really mind it at all).
Well, that's all for now, but I'll write again to let you know how I overcame the fear of having my nails clipped!
Bye,
Hank
