Doggie Dynamics:

Quick Bio:
-mutt-pound dog

laying on the sofa, chasing wildlife, chewing sticks, playing fetch

being asked to move from a warm spot

Favorite Toy:
balls of any sort

Favorite Food:
anything but raw garlic.

Favorite Walk:
walk? HA! running in the woods

Best Tricks:
Samson is a genius, and thus will not perform "tricks". He is, however, a master of basic obedience.

Arrival Story:
Samson came to us at 7 weeks old from the Hillside SPCA. He was one of 30 puppies there that day! He was the one puppy that sat calmly while the bigger, more aggressive puppies bullied my sneakers and the shyer puppies cowered in the back of the pen. He looked me up and down, wagged his tail and walked over to see what the fuss was about. Samson was supposed to only grow to 45 pounds or so, and was such a tiny, skinny little puppy he needed a big, strong name. He is now 75 pounds and tall enough to rest his head (while sitting) on the kitchen table with ease. The vet suspects he may be part Great Dane, but I have my doubts. In anycase, he is the very best dog ever, and will always be my baby.

Samson is known far and wide as The Best Dog Ever in the World. He recently has been recognized as a World Class Shedder, able to shed enough hair in one day to make a whole other dog (albeit a small one). An accomplished hunter, Samson has caught birds on the wing, small deer, turkeys (okay, turkey tail feathers. No one told him they could fly so fast), snakes and assorted rodents. He practices "catch and release". When not hunting big game in the woods, he enjoys long walks, sniffing deer poo, and swimming in the lake. Samson also enjoys watching chickens & ducks, playing with the neighbor dogs and stealing all the covers. And he has a nice big happy smile :)

In late September, Samson was diagnosed with cancer in his throat. The tumor is in an inoperable postion. Samson is now 10.5, so we will not be doing any heroic measures to extend his life, just making him as comfortable as possible until he crosses the Rainbow Bridge. It was hard for me to come and post this here on his dogster site, it makes it too real. It's too hard to admit that a loved one is nearing the end of his journey. I pray that God gives me one more summer with the best dog ever in the world.

Had to finish out the year with some attention focused on me. Not to be outdone by Ralphie the goofy puppy, I broke my toe (actually, the dew claw on my front right leg). It cost just about the same as Ralphie's emergency vet visit, but that is because I am a bigger dog requireing more care. My people tell me this was my early Christmas gift (broke it the week before), and sure enough there was nothing but a sticky bun for me for Christmas. Poor poor dog. Glad to report, the toe is healed now, the meds all gone (YUM cheese wrapped pills!), and life goes on as normal. Happy New Year!!!
