   Leave a bone for Dux

Duxie, Ducky

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:

March 3rd 2005

My "bro" Jake, a 7 year old Chocolate Labrador; My Mom; My Dad; My Mom & Dad's practically grown up children who are still fun to play with when they are around; Eating; Going out; Going for walks; Going to the Dog Park; Running, Digging, Jumping for Joy!

Being left at home! Not being the center of attention, especially if Jake is being petted. Having nails clipped. Otherwise I'm a pretty mellow fellow!

Favorite Toy:
Anything to chew on: bones, rawhides, tennis balls, food! I love squeaky toys but they tend to get shredded pretty fast!

Favorite Food:
Anything my Mom or Dad are having!

Favorite Walk:
The Racine Dog Park! I wish Kenosha would hurry up and get their dog park started at "Pets Park."

Best Tricks:
I do a great job of offering my paw for a shake.

Arrival Story:
Our female Lab, Babe, died 2 years ago. We wanted a small female chocolate lab as a companion for our other Lab, Jake. He is so big (about 100 lbs.) that we thought it would be nice to have another dog that would be easier to handle on walks. So we bought our puppy Molly from a breeder in Brownsville, WI. She was a delight, very smart and full of life, and we fell in love with her. Sadly, Molly was stricken with kidney failure within 6 weeks of coming to live with us and she died from it. The vet surmised this was some type of congenital problem but losing Molly was heartbreaking as she was so very dear. The breeder offered to replace Molly with another Chocolate Lab puppy he had on hand and extolled the male pup's breeding and bloodlines. Well, this is the dog we named "Maximum Mallard Dux," pictured in this bio. No longer did we have a petite female. Dux is huge! Really out of standard - he is probably about 3 inches taller than Jake and has been since he was about 6 or 7 months old. He is in perfect proportion, just egnormus! In terms of Labrador Retrievers, he is a King Kong of dogs and makes Jake look petite in a rotund manner.

Dux is speedy and full of energy. He loves to race around when he is outside and is very good with his "recall," when there isn't a leaf blowing by or rabbits to sniff out of the shrubberies.

Neighbor's Dog a Mean Little Biter!

I got bit all over this afternoon!

Mom and I were just walking home and I had my tennis ball in my mouth after playing Chuck-It in the water tower field next door. Boy, I was tired from playing tennis ball and looking forward to getting a big drink of water at home. Suddenly this boxer dashed out of his front door, comes across the street, and started fighting me. Jeez! I mean, I had to drop my ball and go into snarlin' and snappin' mode too. He was really going at me and he was only about 1/2 my size. I was never in a fight before; I was shocked, shocked for sure!

Mom yelled at the people who owned him (who were just standing there, like their dog was going to quit pretty soon) to come and get their dog off of me!

I think Mom was more upset than I was. She was worried that I was injured and she was mad that the people weren't even acting very sorry their dog was such a jerk. The lady only yelled that her dog "doesn't like other dogs." Mom told the lady that her (teenaged) kids had to be more careful when they came out their door and not let their dog run out too since we pass by their every day. (We're pretty well known around here as Mom walks both Jake & me every day. I don't think very many of the other dogs in the 'hood get walked at all.)

Luckily, it doesn't look like I suffered any punctures - probably because of my double coat, but Mom will keep an eye on me for sore spots, for sure. It makes Mom and me sad that there are mean dogs who live nearby.

I just discovered the allure of Sweet 100's! Mom caught me noshin' the other day - I love eating up those little red orbs! Like candy on the vine.

I went to the vet yesterday and Momma was really surprised: I weigh 112 lbs. of leggy chocolate labrador love! I got my shots and a perscription for an infection with my allergies. Haven't had much problem with allergies until about a month ago and now I'm breaking out all over again. The vet said it probably was the season as I'm eating a very good quality of food with no corn.

Basically life is good - I love chasing the tennis balls in the water tower field next door. I start barking and barking as soon as we head out the door and I know it's my turn for a walk. I race over to the field barking at Momma to get her to throw the tennis balls. Then I tumble a*s over tea kettle trying to catch the ball. I don't retrieve them, of course, just chase them down.

Momma patiently walks all over the field to retrieve the balls so she can throw them again. I get some really good exercise and get all hot and panting and then we continue on our walk around the neighborhood.
