Arrival Story:
In August 2005, my 13 yr old chowXshepherd, Zoya, went to the Rainbow Bridge. Three days later, a friend from Underdog Rescue of Florida called and said "I understand you have an empty backyard..." I replied" It's too soon to even think about it." She said, "Don't say 'No'; I'm emailing you a picture of a dog on "Death Row". Animal Services is going to put it down in 2 days unless we find a foster home for it. The dog is very dirty and matted but she seems sweet..." Hmmm-I called my daughter who has 2 rescue dogs and sent her the picture. "You have to go rescue "Little Orphan Annie", she said, "even if you just foster her till she can find a forever home!" I agreed to go look at her. The shelter escort led me directly to "Death Row" in a separate bldg from the adoptable dogs. I can't describe how pathetic this little dog looked. When I went into the cage with her, the first thing she did was lick my hand, then she figured out I had dog cookies in my pocket. I took one out and said "Sit"-she sat! I said "I'll take her home with me." He put a rope around her neck and handed it to me. No paperwork, no money, nothing-I walked out of there with "Little Orphan Annie". It was obvious she had never been in a car so I picked up this filth encrusted pound pooch and put her on the backseat of my car. She laid down and slept the entire trip home. After a trip to the groomer to be shaved and the vet for a thorough exam, we both felt a lot better.

Bio:
Annie is the calmest, friendliest dog I've ever owned. Annie spent several months being treated for some medical baggage, gaining weight and being spayed over the holidays. The vet thinks she was probably on her own for 4-5 months before she was picked up as a stray. Now she has graduated Petsmart obedience school and she is a quick learner. Next we're going to get a Pet Therapy certificate. Her best friend is Howi, my big white rescue cat, who is about the same age. They play well together and he bonded with her right away and showed her the ropes when she first came to live with us. Cosmo, the Queen cat, allows Annie to live with us only if she gets a treat every time the dog does. Annie plays well with other dogs, large and small, and has good manners so I can take her anywhere. People are always asking what breed my cute dog is and I tell them she is a "Teddybear Dog"!

I knew it was going to be a great day when Mom said she had to go to the store to get CHICKEN LIVERS! My tail started going in circles because it had to be somebody's birthday- it was MINE! Yea! It was a great birthday cake and I ate the whole thing! Mom also made me a roasted marrow bone and some delicious Treats You Can Trust-Doggie Delights! I am such a Lucky Dog because my Mom started an Organic Pet Treat business and now I am the Quality Control Supervisor. I'll tell you about that another time...

Hi- Its been awhile but a lot has happened. I have a new kitty sibling Emme, who is really Mom's grandkitty that needed to be rehomed because her little human was allergic to her! Emme loves me best and likes to walk underneath me and tickle my belly-she thinks its funny. I can't see her coming because I'm almost totally blind from PRA now but I don't mind Emme doing that because it's like she's playing with me and I like her. Howi and Cosmo are still my buds too. Howi and I hang out on the porch alot. But since we both have allergies to pollen, Mom gives us medicine and we both try to spit it out the first time but then Mom tricks us with treats. So since it's been really hot in FL this summer and the allergies are bad, we mostly stay inside and are couch potatoes. Mom takes me for walks late at night when it is cooler and I have a new blinking collar for my birthday! Off to eat my Chopped Chicken Liver Birthday Cake!

Wow, I woke up to the smell of chicken livers cooking-Happy- Birthday, ME!

Wow, I woke up to the smell of chicken livers cooking on top of the stove-this is going to be a REALLY good day! Mom told me yesterday that it was going to me MY special day again soon but it's got to be today!

I'm offically 5 yrs old today because this is the anniversary of my "Gotcha-Day"-best day of my life! Mom came and took me away from that awful concrete and wire place where I was in a special building for dogs that went out for a walk and never came back . Well, that's all in the past! Life has been really good for the last four years and this year, too, except I can't see too well anymore.

When I almost walked off a 20' pier, Mom took me to a doggie eye doctor who said I have PRA and I got it from my doggie parents. It doesn't hurt but it's not going to get better and soon, I won't be able to see at all. So Mom and I have been going for lots of walks in my all favorite places so I will remember where I am when I can't see them anymore. Howi walks outside in the backyard with me and waits for me to come back in at night. Guess he is my guide cat.

I am a lucky dog because I have a family that loves me and a great home with lots of beds and good food-oh yeah, about those Chicken Livers, are they ready yet?
