Arrival Story:
Well, we had two Weim puppies--one male and one female-- that we had gotten from Weimaraner Rescue of the South. They were about7 months old when my daughter began talking about fostering a rescued dog. I knew that an abused dog would not get along with two wild puppies so I said that we would take them to meet the dog and if they were OK with each other that we would foster him. (I knew this was a safe deal!) We took the puppies to meet Gil at the animal clinic--and we came home with two puppies and Gil the Foster Dog.

Bio:
Gil had had a really bad life until he was rescued. He was turned in to a shelter with two Labs. The owner didn't know how old he was, had never taken him to a vet, and had never named him--even though he had had him for about 3 or 4 years. Obviously, he had been mistreated. When my husband walked out on the deck when we got home, Gil dropped to the floor, curled into a ball and whimpered and cried. He suffered from severe separate anxiety when we first got him (and we have all kinds of evidence to prove it--he ate a hole in the sheetrock in the laundry room). He's on medication now and is doing great. He still flinches if you make a sudden movement, but he's come such a long way. He just wants to be with someone. We have had him since April 2005 and I think that we can drop "the Foster Dog" in his name. I don't think that any of us could watch him leaving with someone else. He has definitely won our hearts!
