Arrival Story:
Luka was adopted as a 5 week old puppy from the Capital Area Humane Society. He was the only puppy in his litter who had not found his adoptive family. He looked completely different from his brothers and sisters. None of the others had the Shar Pei wrinkles. We were told he was the alpha dog of his litter and he would require a lot of training.(6 years later we definitely agree with this!!) We decided this 10 lb lump of wrinkled puppy was perfect for us and we have been a happy family ever since.
Bio:
Luka graduated from obedience school at the top of his class. He is extremely smart and very loyal to his family. He has a best dog friend who is a Dachshund mix named Schnapps. He also has a bit of a crush on the 1 year old female Boxer who lives next door. He loves to prance around his yard showing off for her. Another one of his endearing qualities is his wonderful "happy grunt" that he makes when he is having a good time.

Dear Luka,
I just wanted to bark in your journal about what a wonderful boy you were to us. You were loyal to your family until the end and we will never forget you! Our house does not seem like a home without you wondering the grounds and guarding the doors and sleeping peacefully on the couch. Everytime I look into the back yard I still expect to see you out there chasing rabbits or burying bones. I miss the sound of your collar jingling and the sight of your happy tail. I will miss our daily walks together. I wish they didn't have to end so soon. I don't know how I will be able to take a walk again without wishing you were by my side. Afterall, who will be there to scare the squirrel away and make sure all the fire hydrants are watered? I know I will be sad when the first snow falls this year because I know how excited you would have been to get out there and play in it (and eat it). It breaks my heart that you will not be there at Christmas to get treats in your stocking. I think we learned a lot from each other over the years. I am so very proud of how far you came in your training . You worked so hard and made so many improvements and I know that it wasn't always easy for you. I hope that I was able to give you the best life possible. I am so proud to be your mommy and I will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge. In the meantime, have fun with Grandpa! I know he will take good care of you.
