Arrival Story:
The groomer at the veterinary hospital where I work breeds corgis. I have always admired the breed, and fell in love with Kricket at first sight!!! Who could resist that package- big ears, big eyes, fluffy butt and little short legs!?!?

Bio:
Kricket's original name was "Katie"...but that name just did not seem to fit her. About three days after I adopted her, she was hopping around in the backyard, and the name "Kricket" popped into my head. It certainly fits her! Kricket is a wonderful companion; sweet, smart, and comical. She has these hysterical bursts of energy where she literally runs in circles in the living room.

Yesterday night, I had an adventure. I was at home with Mysti and Nana and Mom was at her work at that torture chanber for dogs (she calls it the "Emergency Pet Clinic.") Anyway, I heard her car and ran to the door to greet her. She came in and put my leash on so we could go outside. But she did not put Mysti's leash on. That seemed kind of weird, but oh, well...alone time for me and mom. But instead of taking me to the grass, Mom took me to the car. We never go anywhere in the car at night, so I was kind of excited. Until I figured out where we were going- the torture chamber.

Mom explained while we were driving that there was a very sick dog named Mikey at the Emergency Clinic who needed a blood transfusion. That made me sad- I don't like it when dogs get sick. Then she said that I was going to donate MY blood to help Mikey. That was fine with me. I know how to share; as long as I don't have to give him my food or my toys, no problem.

We went into the clinic and back to the treatment area. Everyone seemed really glad to see me. I heard Mom talking to the doctor about what they were going to do. Mom sounded a little nervous, and she asked alot of questions. Everything sounded pretty sounded technical, so I stopped listening and started licking Mom's hand instead. Mom lifted me onto a table and took off my collar. YEAH! I HATE that thing!! Then a nice man gave me a big hug and held my nose up a little.

The doctor used one of those dumb buzzy clipping things to cut some hair from my neck. (Mysti better not laugh at me when I get home, or I will bite her!!) Then she washed my neck with some nice smelling soap. Then she poked a BIG needle in my neck. She was really gentle, and it hardly hurt at all. Mom stayed with me the whole time and kept telling me what a good girl I was. I had to stay still for awhile while my blood was being collected. The doctor kept looking in my mouth to make sure she was not taking too much blood. When they got what they needed, the took out the needle. One of the nurses asked Mom if I would like some food. Mom said yes (bless her- I love my mom!!) The nurse gave me some a few spoonfuls of good, stinky canned food. I would have given the rest of my blood for a little more of that food!!

All the nurses petted me and told me what a good girl I was, and Mom took me home. When we got home, she gave me a snack and told Nana about what happened. And Nana said I was a hero for giving my blood to help Mikey. I got lots of extra hugs and kisses that night. Wow- a ride in the car, praise, food, treats and lots of hugs and kisses...what a great reward!!!
