She was taken by a good samaritan to what turned out to be a very bad place and was scheduled to be gassed. Because she was such a nice dog, the people who worked there begged for her to join a dog "underground railroad" run to rescue organizations in NY and Vermont, where we have stricter animal protection laws. Meneken had lost his beloved sister, Sheena, a cocker spaniel, six months before, and missed her terribly, but he had a habit of going off on other dogs, so I had practically given up on finding him another companion. My friend in rescue, who had gotten me together with Meneken, had given my name to someone who was attempting to place a 12-year-old female cocker, but this dog's foster mother decided to keep her, so she offered me Sara. When we met, Meneken did his usual barking and lunging, but Sara just walked away. I knew then that she was the right match for him. This was October 11, 2003, my birthday and Meneken's, and Sara was a wonderful gift for both of us. The rest is history. She's my sweet angel and Meneken's sister and protector... Bio: Because Sara was found as a stray, there was no way of knowing her name. Her paperwork said her name was "Cindy," but she ignored it, much to her detriment, since she has a penchant for runnng off, probably the reason that she became lost to begin with. I tried every name I could come up with, but then I tried "Sara," another Stevie Nicks song, since my beloved cat was Rhiannon. She immediately reacted when I called "Sara," ran across the room, jumped up into my lap and licked my face. So I knew that I had finally found her name. She doesn't always choose to listen, but she does know her name and who she is!:D Forums Motto: Isn't it dinnertime?! The Groups I'm In: 10 YEARS OR OVER???
