Arrival Story: We got her as a Christmas present from Santa. We heard her wimpering in her little box and ran to see if we really got a dog for christmas. She was the tiniest little bright red poodle. She's grey now, but gets more beautiful everyday to us.

Bio: The Winge has been through a lot in her many years of life. It seems like she was old after 5 years or so, and her bright red coat gradually greyed. When she was about 10 she started getting cataracts and eventually went completely blind. But she has an internal "doggy sonar" that lets her find her way around the house without incident. Her favorite things to do involve sitting around. She loves to sun herself in the backyard. Unfortunately, she also likes to sneak out of the house and sit in leaf piles in the fall, after she's patrolled the neighbors garbage piles and eaten anything that might go to waste. One year when she was still young, she was clipped by the neighbor's car as they were backing out of their driveway, but she wasn't hurt, luckily. A few years later, however, she was doing the same thing in the other neighbor's driveway and was completely run over, as she blended in totally with the leaves. Her back legs were crushed and her pelvis broken. We really thought she couldn't survive, but our wonderful vet told us not to give up on her, and of course, we didn't, not like we would even consider that. My mom carried her in a little doggy papoose for 3 months until her legs healed. She was back to almost normal not long after, and we're more thankful than we can say for that.
One year, she got lost as she was on her garbage can route, and a neighbor down the street found her and brought her home. Probably one of the scariest things that ever happen, though, was one spring day when the dogs were in the front yard. Both little poodles were sniffing around when a big scary dog ran into the yard and attacked both poodles. He was about to run off with Ginger, after he had dropped Pepe, when my dad screamed at the dog and it dropped Ginger and ran away. The dogs both had 1" puncture wounds in their shoulders where they had been mauled. They had to spend the night at the vet, but recovered fully.
So, Ginger's been though a lot, but keeps going and going and grows more graceful with age every year.
Sadly Ginger died on Jan. 9, 2006 of a stroke. Our hearts will always be with her, and for us, she will live on forever. She was our little winge.
