Likes: Roughousing with other dogs that can handle it, treats, and people.
Pet-Peeves: when people blow their nose...and when Mommy wraps a towel over her head to dry her hair
Favorite Toy: my stuffed zebra, Zee zee. I got him the first full week i was home with my mom. i sleep with him and he's the only toy i don't chew. *September '06 update....Zee zee is no longer with us. I suppose nearly one-year-old girls don't need their baby toys.
Favorite Food: California Natural Chicken Meal and Rice Formula (and treeeeeeeats!)
Favorite Walk: i like to walk around the trail at our apartment complex, and i love the dog park.
Best Tricks: i can count to five (barking), i can sit, "crash" (lay down), and give my paw to shake.
Arrival Story: I met ella at the gloucester County Animal Shelter's off-site adoption center at PetSmart in Deptford, NJ. She was the last of her litter to be adopted. When I held her, she laid her chin on my elbow pit, and without moving her head, just watched everything going on by moving only her eyes. I fell in love. Less than a week later, she was home with me.
Bio: ella is a mix. there's no denying the pit and boxer in her. as far as the lab that she supposedly has in her....i dunno. she's on-again-off-again with the "fetch" thing, but when she does play fetch, she'll drop the item right at my feet for me to throw it again.

I've Been On Dogster Since:
Mommy and I enjoyed our summer very much. Mommy lost her job, so she didn't go to work all summer. That was good for me because she and I got to spend tonnnnns of time together!
I took my first trip to the ocean this summer, and I just loved it. I chased seagulls, dug in the sand, and hopped
like a frog in the waves. My mom nicknamed me "Froggie Doggie" after my seashore experience. It was just incredible.
Mom went to Argentina for 10 days in July, without me. She had a great time with my Uncle who she was there to visit, though. At the end of August she had to leave me again to volunteer as a counselor of 11 year old girls at Camp Dreamcatcher (http://campdreamcatcher.org) for a week. Both times, I was glad to have her back after she'd been gone.
Other than those adventures, I've been to the local dog park and my Doggie Day Camp at Best Friends Pet Resort and Salon.
Hiya!! I'm ella. My mommy adopted me when I was only 9 weeks old from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter's remote adoption center, held at Petsmart in Deptford, New Jersey. When I first met my mom, I was 8 weeks old, and I had stitches in my little abdomen from my spaying operation. My friends at GCAS would not let me go home with anyone until I was spayed, because they love me and they didn't want other babies like me to be without a good home. My mom was really nice, but she wasn't my mom at that point; there was another lady who was interested in taking me home. My mommy even came back a second time to see me. She took my picture on her second visit, and took it home to show me off even before hearing whether or she was going to be my mommy forever.
Judy from GCAS called Mommy at work about three days after my first photo shoot and she gave her the good news! We were going to be bestest friends forever and ever!! Judy told Mom to come get me THAT NIGHT! That was very exciting news for both of us!! I had to visit Dr. Sclarsky and Dr. Fisher within 5 days of going home with Mommy. She takes care of all those dates and stuff for me, I'm was too little to use the phone back then. I had my first visit to the vet. I didn't like it. They cut my toenails (one too short…yikes and ouches!), took my picture, put a microchip in me so that I never get lost from Mommy, and then told me I was a healthy 11 pounds!
The weeks that followed were uncomfortable for me, and things were challenging, emotional, and expensive for Mom. The first full week she was home with me, mommy spent a whole night awake with me when I started feeling icky. After a sleepless night for both of us, she took me to the HUP-ER at 6:30 AM. I was running a fever accompanied by excessive vomiting and diarrhea. Mommy took a day off of work, and she back to get me at about 10:00 AM to take me back to Dr. Fisher. I had to spend the night at the Garden State Animal Hospital. It was tough being away from my mommy, but I did okay. Mommy had a tough time with it. She told me later on that she cried when she got home from leaving me at the vet’s.
On a happier note, when Mommy came back to get me I was feeling much better! After weeks of difficulty and discomfort, my Puppy Kindergarten teacher, Barbara Kahn told mommy that she thought I might be wheat sensitive. Mommy changed my food and treats, eliminating all wheat and gluten from my diet. Mommy jokes that I am almost as high maintenance as she is!
So, more about my time in Puppy Kindergarten at Wonderdogs… I worked hard and successfully completed all of my training classes. It was much harder for Mommy than it was for me. She had a lot to learn about how to be a new Mommy, how to communicate with me, and how to help me to learn. I worked very, very hard, because I really wanted to please my mom. She is my only and therefore best mom, after all. So why not make her happy? Mommy and I discovered that we make a pretty good team! I was the STAR of the class; a definite teacher's pet. I was the only student with perfect attendance—I know because I was there!
I graduated from Puppy Kindergarten on February 11, 2006. I got a diploma and a gold medal, too! My mommy is so proud of me, and she even she hung my awards up on her bedroom wall. I had a lot of fun in school. I think I’ll be taking Mommy back there when I'm a little older, so my mom and I can learn some more.
Guess what?! The day after I graduated, it SNOWED!!! I had my first official snow day!! I got to go out and play in the snow with Mommy!
Well, from February through to the end of March, my belly has been doing very well. I started visiting a dog park near my Grandmom and Grandpop's house. I have fun friends there who I can be my wacky self with. Speaking of making friends, Mommy signed me up for Doggie Day Camp at a pet care center near her work. Starting April 3, I go to camp from 8:00-1:00 and then I hang in a room until Mommy comes to get me. I got a shiny new collar for my first day. I'm super excited to go!! I went back to the vet a few weeks ago to get my vaccine for Kennel Cough, which my camp counselors require for all campers. I hate going to the vet, and I get really scared when we have to go. They cut my toenails again, and put this stuff up my nose. I found out that I weigh 36 pounds now.
Well, I hope you enjoyed learning about me. It's no sniff of my behind, but it does give you some decent information about little old me. Thanks for reading!
