The End Came Too Soon.

Marley, true to her breed, fought a courageous battle against the sneaky enemy, cancer.
She and we tried to beat it, but at almost 13 years old...she was tired and not as game as she was back in her youth. She was a character, she went to school, she travelled, she adapted to our family, She helped to raise two girls and many other dogs. And through it all she was calm, stable, mellow and sweet. She touched a lot of lives. Marley will be remembered by many, many people who loved her. She was a perfect breed ambassador and convinced the skeptics (and the wary parents of hundreds of children who knew and adored her) that pitbulls are wonderful dogs. They are people dogs. They are excellent family dogs. Thank you Marley for more than 12 years of love, adventure and companionship. You will always be remembered as the BEST dog.

New Pal in the Pack

Well the newest member of the pack is shaping us nicely...she feeds me three times a day (sometimes more and there are always leftovers around the carseat). She has a plethora of toys and is so willing to share! She even throws (well, that's a stretch) the ball for me in the back yard. She still is pretty squeaky but she doesn't cry as much at night...which is good for my beauty rest. I think she likes almost everything I like, especially beach walks and ground beef. The best part is she recognizes the gift of walking on all fours! Now if she could just learn to play tug and hunt gophers....

Well, just as I suspected, our pack has gained another member. She is pretty small and squeaky, but she'll grow up fast. I plan to train her personally so she will understand the importance of feeding me bacon, walking me to the beach everyday and letting me play with her stuffed animals. My owners are fairly occupied with the newest pup...so I am getting loads of R and R. I am reading a memoir called Dog Years...pretty heavy stuff for the average canine brain. Good thing I took comparative lit. at UCD.

there are strange things happening in our house...piles and piles of cute pink crap and lots of cotton rags accumulating. Toys are being brought here but oddly they are not being given to me. The owners are always on the way in or out and not into the 5 mile walks I am used to...hmmm truthfully I don't mind the relaxation and days of just snoozing in the back yard with my owner in the hammock above. But something tells me (must be my keen canine intuition) that something is going on.

the destruction zone

our house is getting nicer but the noise is driving me crazy. they call it "remodeling", I call it hell. Every day there are strange guys in my yard, some of them look downright criminal (my owners refer to them as the con-monkeys). They bring tools that make annoying or ear-shocking sounds. the smells are horrific...paint stripper, volkem, drill dust, epoxy and a whole host of nasty substances that pepper my perfect coat. pardon my rant but all this work is taking up MY quality time! the owners are so damn busy making sure the con-monkeys don't screw up and don't drive off with the valuables that I end up ignored! unbelievable! unacceptable! hopefully their bank account will dry up soon and end the torture of the construction zone on this canine victim.

Happy solstice my tail! I wanna be out romping in the snow with my pack. I hate the avalanche bombs and that damn crackling fire....ah, the sounds of the season. At least I've got a stocking full of greenies and my K9 homegirl Scarlett.

Ever have that feeling that your friends are sniffing you when you aren't looking...perhaps they are whispering behind your back that your once regal coat, sparkling eyes and minty fresh breath are a thing of the past...getting old stinks.

Well, summer has come and gone....ah the lazy days of foggy bliss, endless patrolling the neighborhood for errant rodents, four-legged body surfing till my ears fill with sand....I join in sorrow with the youth of america as we all must answer the call of higher education.

I'll be returning to the local playground and lunch tables soon. I hope they replaced the soccer balls I deflated last season. Maybe they added tennis to the PE curricullum!

More after my first week handing out homework, behavior notes and gold stars.

well, unlike my beloved namesake, the most poetic peacemaker,
BOB MARLEY...I survived my bout with skin cancer.
I am feeling strong and I can krunk all night long. No chemo, no positronic emissions, just pure love and Cali sunshine.
If the MST has got you down...look up, there is hope!
Let's get together and feel alright.

Well, the doc doped me up and cut out that festering tumor (and many extra centimeters of flesh). I looked like frankenK9 at first...19 stiches on my neck made me look like nearly-headless Nick...some small children screamed and ran away. But I am on the mend and my hair is growing back. I do get plenty of sympathy and sleeping on the real bed because of all this nonsense. Well...now we just hang out summer style and hope no more lumps turn malignant. Long live the lumpy pitbulls!

Today I walked with hundreds of other locals to raise money for the SPCA...I mananged to collect about $350.00! Not bad for an old, crusty pittie with a neck tumor! Thursday I have to go under the knife and find out just how cancerous I am. ICK. Wish me luck...I hope the drugs are good. Stay tuned for my prognosis.
