Spike was a rescue from the local Humane Society Shelter. He was about 2 when we got him and had been a back yard dog 24/7 until his past owners gave him up. We've overcome a lot of his lack of socialization past, and are now working towards AKC competition obedience and agility titles! He is an absolute joy to train!

Spike Passes Open Sits!

Thanks to our class mates, friends, husband Steve and Kathy for
helping us practice and proof Spike's sit stays over the last several
months. It paid off yesterday at the ASCA show in Bow.

When I returned to the ring and saw Spike sitting with confidence and
pride along with the other dogs I had to work hard to choke back the
tears! I haven't shown Spike in Open for the last 7 months while we
worked slowly and methodically on his out of sight stays.

Not only did he pass his sit stay, he got his first Open leg, first
place in the class, highest scoring Aussie and High in Trial! Our
work is not finished however - I cannot ever take Spike's sit stays
for granted and we will need to continue working so that he gains the
confidence to hold his stays at busier, bigger shows.

Spike enjoyed the cheeseburger that I promised him on the way home!
Hmm, perhaps it was the cheeseburger image that actually made Spike
successful. I think I just started a new show ritual!

I did Open A again today. Like yesterday I did pretty good in all the normal exercises. I was tired after yesterday, so I wasn't quite as "sharp" . Today on the sit stay Steve, Ingrida and Shelly were all outside the ring watching me while Judy was hiding some where. I decided to lay down after 2 minutes and 45 seconds of sitting. Judy didn't look very happy when she came back in the ring.......

There's talk about no more shows until we do a lot of hard work on my stays. I hope we get to work on our utility excersises and agility in the mean time. Utility and agiltiy are fun!

Puyallup Dog Show

I know when its a dog show day because Judy tells me that we are going to the doggy show and I get excited and run and jump in the car. Well, today was really different because this time Judy started off the morning giving Jackson a bath and blowing him dry. I was so glad it wasn't ME getting a bath but I was getting tired of waiting around for them!

I hung out in my crate in the obedience area while Judyand Steve had Jackson in the breed ring. I was okay up there because I've been there many time before. When Judy got back we rushed around and went right into the obedience ring.

I had lots of energy and I did a really good job with heeling, jumping, retieveing and the drop on recall. I got a 194.5 for that part. But then came the 3-minute sits when mom leaves the room. After aobut 2 mintues I just didn't see the point and I laid down so we didn't get to qualify today. Judy said we are going to work on our long sits tonight so that I do it right tomorrow. We'll see..... I kinda like to keep her guessing!

Stay tuned.
