Arrival Story:
LONG STORY, but a great one. We live in VA but are native Texans. We went home to visit for Thanksgiving 2005. I was watching the news early one morning and Belle (then called RC) was the spotlight dog from the SPCA. I instantly felt a connection and told my mom who was sitting next to me "That's my dog. We have to get her now!" We were about three hours from the Dallas SPCA she was at. We drove as fast as we could, calling the SPCA every fifteen minutes to make sure she had not been adopted yet. They could not "hold" her for us but, our saving grace was that it was a Monday and most people were at work. We made it in time. My four-year-old son, who had not seen the news program, amazingly ran to her cage and said, "that's my dog!" We are still unsure how he knew. A few signatures later, she was in our van heading back to VA with us. The 20 hour drive proved that she was a good car dog. Now she is the new baby, aka "family dog". She also has since proven to be great with the kids and really fits in perfectly with our family. And I love that ALL the members of our family are from Texas!

Bio:
She sleeps on her back, spread eagle style, so cute!! She loves to lick faces, rough house/play fight, and run up and down the fence with the next door neighbor dog (a Doberman named Prissy). She loves car trips and to "GO" anywhere. She is the spitting image of our first "family dog", Ellie who died after being hit by a car about a month before Belle was born, eerie! That explains the instant connection to Belle because she looked so much like our first "daughter".

Loud Rolly Things, Part Deaux

I have become much more aggressive in my attempt to end the use of the loud rolly thing. I think HIS name is O-R-E-C-K. Boy, what a stupid name. Anyway... Now, I not only growl and bark menacingly at it (obviously that did NOT make the madness stop) but, I bite at it and occasionally successfully land a strike at the beast. I have even pulled it up to a foot away if I get a good enough hold on the bag part. Drives my mom crazy and occasionally buys me a one way ticket outside when she must use the device. But, I will never give up my quest to end the use of this loud rolly thing!

We are just getting to know Belle. After all, she has only been around a few months. Here are some of the things we are discovering about our new family member:

*She enjoys sleeping on the couch, in CJ's bed or in her bed.

*She loves to sleep on her back or as close to me as possible if I am on the couch with her.

*If the opportunity to run out the front door arises, she takes it. She loves the chase of us trying to catch her and only makes her run farther. But if you just close the door, when your re-open it in two minutes, she will be on the porch waiting to come back in. (this discovery has made life much easier)

*When she is in the fenced back yard and ready to come in, she lets out the tiniest "woof" as if to say "please, may I come in now", quite charming.

*She barks incessantly at the vacuum. This is one of those things that are cute the first time. Now she goes outside when I vacuum.

*She also thinks the dog in the mirror is another dog in which she must growl or bark. (another one of those cute the first time things)

*We used to get concerned about her growling at the kids. Now we realize it is just her way of saying "I have had enough, go away" and she has yet to take it further. She has proven herself to be a VERY tolerant dog with all things (kids, other dogs, baths, etc).

*She also enjoys howling with all the other dogs in the neighborhood whenever they hear a siren (also, only cute the first time).

*She loves to GO and hates to see us leave without her, so within seconds of walking out the door, she has jumped up into our bay window and stays there until we return. It is so sweet!

As with all new relationships, I think we were a little guarded so as not to get too close too fast just in case things did not work out. But each day, our bond grows a little stronger and she becomes more a part of our lives.

How much is that doggie in the window?

I love to GO!!! Go anywhere, anytime, you name it, I will GO!!! So you can imagine how much I hate to see my mom or family go without me. She has to do it sometimes, but I have learned a new trick. By jumping on the back of the couch, stepping through the vertical blinds and onto the window sill of the bay window, I can now watch her leave. Sometimes, when I flash my big, brown, sad eyes at her, she comes back in the house to get me so I can go with her. YEAH!!! But sometimes she drives off anyway without me, so I just take that opportunity to enjoy sun bathing in the window while she is gone. That way I know exactly when she returns. It really shortens our time apart by at least 3o seconds. Plus she told me she doesn't mind me being there because she thinks that I make a lovely window decoration. woof woof!
