Well, my person and I went out in the sage and grass place again. We were looking for those little birds he likes to shoot. I sure like it when he takes me out there, I get to run wherever I like and once in a while I find those birds. Today we started at a little creek that has been flooded for a month now and I found some ducks. I almost caught one, but it was a little to fast for me. When I looked back at my person, he was just laughing at me. I thought that was what my job was, to catch the birds. Most of the time when they get away from me, my person shoots them and then I go and find them. These games we play are really fun, but after an hour or two I get tired and my leg starts to hurt a little. That's when my person tries to race me back to the truck... he's slow.

How Zoe and Libby spent Christmas

Well Zoe did pretty well at the place where we boarded her with Libby, but I wouldn't have blamed her if she was a mess either. Zoe sometimes has a hard time getting along with Libby, who is a Border Collie, and the place that we boarded them is a breeding and training center for Border Collies. The lady that takes care of them is very nice and a great trainer, so we know that they are being treated very well. We would love to take the dogs with us when we travel, but Libby freaks out in the truck sometimes and Zoe doesn't always like other dogs coming near us, but we are working on both of those characteristics.
On the Friday before Christmas, I took Zoe out quail hunting and we saw a few. The first time I took her I was just seeing what she would do. We walked around for about 15 minutes and she locked up- her tail went almost straight and she was staring at the sagebrush. When I walked up to her to see what she was looking at, I saw about 150 little quail heads staring back at us. I couldn't believe it, I've never seen a lab point before and that's just what she did. So, she got lots of praise and treats for doing such a good job.
A couple of trips later we were in the same spot when she jumped a jackrabbit and gave chase. We had been playing the "come" game for a few months and when I whistled and yelled (I only yelled because she was already out about 75 yards) "ZOE COME!!", she broke off the chase and came right back. What a great girl.
