Betster, Betz

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:
-purebred-pound dog

Betsy enjoys sleeping on the couch by her mom, would enjoy walks but her her hips no longer like walks, she likes to eat treats and have lots of attention given to her.

Having her ears cleaned out, she also is not that keen on having her toenails clipped.

Favorite Toy:
Unfortunately Betsy never had the opportunity to have toys or to be played with for the first 4 - 5 years of her life, and despite lots of attempts to try and get her to play and enjoy toys, she has never taken to them.

Favorite Food:
Betsy likes basically everything she can eat, fairly typical for a Labrador!

Favorite Walk:
To her food dish.

Best Tricks:
Betsy can shake with either paw, roll over, sit still with a treat o her nose and on command toss it into the air and catch it; she can also "speak".

Arrival Story:
Betsy was adopted as a stray from the local Humane Shelter. I have always had Labradors, and so she was a natural choice. She would sit when asked to, but that was about it as far as obedience went. After taking her home we found out that she had no leash manners, probably had never ridden in a car, was not house broken, would not stay in a crate, and would break out of a dog run. It seemed that she had probably lived outside in a yard and at some time had been beaten by a male. She had severe separation anxiety when left at home. We have cats at home, and while at the Humane Society she did not pay any special attention to them when we took her home she growled and lunged at them. She found out right away that was not an acceptable thing to do and after a couple of days was just fine with them. After two different sessions of obedience training, and lots of TLC, she grew into a wonderful dog.

Since Betsy was a stray we did not know her name. For the first few days my daughters tried out lots of names with her, Betsy seemed to be the only one that she had any reaction to, and so that became her name. Although she is a Labrador RETRIEVER, obviously her mom never told her what that meant; even with lots of attempts she has never wanted to carry anything in her mouth or retrieve. Betsy does like water though, and especially fairly shallow water, she likes to go in, turn around a couple times and then lie down in the water.
