Arrival Story:
I moved to Birmingham, AL from Indiana in the summer of 1999. I was going through a huge transition in my life, so I toyed with the idea of getting a Basset. I lived in a small apartment and didn't feel that it was large enough for a dog. One Saturday afternoon, I stopped into a pet store in Vestivia after working out at my gym that was located above. That day they where haveing an adoption day, and to my surprise they had Bassets. The Birmingham Basset Rescue was in attendance and I spoke with a gentleman about how much I loved Basset Hounds--so, we exchanged numbers and he said that he would call when a Basset that I would be compatable with became available. A month later his wife called me to tell me about a Basset that she thought would be perfect for me. She told me that he had just been nuetered and was recovering at the Vestivia animal hostpital and if I would stop by to see if I liked him. When I got to the clinic I asked to see the Basset named "George." The took to his kennel, where he was lying in a drugged state. I kneeled down at his cage and said, "Hello, Rhett Butler." He was trying as hard as he could to sit up, but he just could not do it. At that moment I knew he was the one for me! He was my little boy. I was able to pick him up the following day. Now her comes the dramatic part....when they let him out of his kennel he was at one end the hall and I was a the other. I called him by his new name and he came running to me saying, "Let's go mommy!"

Bio:
Rhett is actually a basset from Alabama. The wonderful people at the Birmingham Basset Rescue saved our lives by putting us together. Rhett has a brother that was given up with him to the Birmingham Basset Rescue. His name was "Bubba" and was changed to "Elvis" after he was adopted.
