Greta got fixed yesterday. OFA looked at her hip x-rays and rated them "mild dysplasia" so we chose not to breed her. Too bad because she would have had BEAUTIFUL puppies, and such a sweet disposition too. But this breed is notorious for hip and elbow dysplasia, and it would not have been fair to her (so much weight could have worsened her hips) or to her puppies (increased risk of passing on dysplasia genes). She would have had her 3rd heat cycle in the next few weeks.

The surgery went well and she tried to run around in the snow as soon as she got home. She's in a bit of pain now, whimpering a little, and taking some good doggie pain meds. It's a little sad, but we know it's in her best interest. Guess we better start looking for puppies for Xmas/Hannukah!
