Arrival Story:
I have had "Bella" for three weeks and three days. This last Thanksgiving my mother found her hiding under a table on her front porch...freezing. She had obviously been there for some time because she was shivering so much her whole body would almost convulse. Other than the cold, she was clean and looked well cared for, even on the rotund side of health. We found out that she has been spayed (doc found the scar) not micro-chipped, not tattooed, no one positively replied to my ad in the paper and there were no lost dog flyers, ads, announcements in the area. My vet says that she is probably about two years old and in good health except she could lose a pound or two. He believes her to be mostly chihuahua. "Bella" has found her new forever home with us and she took no time becoming one of the family!

Bio:
Bella shares her home with two birds, a big brother-Socrates, and four human teenagers, plus her mommy. Bella has obviously never shared a home with birds before and this is taking some getting used to. Duchess Isabella loves playing with her big brother Socrates, a little more than Socrates would like but he has become quite fond of her. They are buddies now. She is still apprehensive when the human teenagers bring friends over...and they are always bringing friends over!!!

Mommy is very happy with me today.
Today on our walk mommy made me use my leash and halter most of the time today. I saw a lot of strange people and two or three strange dogs and the first time I was really excited and barked to show my excitement, I even pulled at the leash some, but mom told me enough and talked to me and I calmed down and walked with her.
I never even used my "bad bark or growl" that tells the other dogs to leave now or I'll make them leave. I didn't use that bark or growl even once today.

The other dog was a little farther away and I kept my eye on it, but I didn't bark at it and when mommy reminded me about my walk I got back to what we were doing. She let me off the leash to play and run with Socrates when the other dogs had left and we were alone.

Mommy was very impressed with my listening and obeying. She said that it was a huge improvement.

Oh yeah, I got to walk home without my leash and everything was really good until the neighbors kitty came and sat in the driveway! I can't help it, I like to make kitties run...it's fun! I ran at the kitty but it didn't run away and mommy was right on top of things and told me to "come" and "down" and that's just what I did. She said that I was much better, but that we still will have to practice because she wants me to COMPLETELY IGNORE the kitties! She doesn't even care that I think this is asking way too much.

Mommy has learned a new trick too, I don't like her trick. I've been known to get the growlies when there are people in my home that aren't my family. Mommy tells me that I've done enough, but I still want to make sure they know that they don't belong, so I keep growling.

Today, I started doing this to Grandma Dot. Of course, I know her, but this is my home not hers! Well mommy was having none of it, she squirted me with a squirt bottle! and when I forgot and accidentally growled again...she told me enough and squirted me again! Well I was quiet and didn't forget after that but I showed her. I wouldn't talk to her for a long time after the squirt bottle incident. Later when everyone had left, she told me I had been a good girl and was smart to only took me two times to learn that she was serious.

Well, mommy seems to be done with my lessons for today, so I'm going to go nap for awhile.

Mommy entered me in the holiday photo stroll. I'm so happy. I hope I get a lot more pals and bones from other dogster members.
Mommy says that she doesn't know why I haven't gotten as many bones and pals as Socrates. She said that it could be that Socrates has had more time to find more interests than I have!
I have interests too...I love playing with Socrates and I love runnning and runninng and being the family watch dog! I help mommy by picking things up off the floor all the time, she really likes this and keeps everything I find on the floor!
