Arrival Story: Finn was born on December 24, 2003. My ex boyfriend and I were driving to Office Max on February 15th, and, saw retriever puppies. And, although it wasn't the best situation for acquiring a puppy, we fell in love! We had been discussing getting a dog, but, hadn't decided on a breed, yet. But, Finn's color really caught our attention (it's called fox red and is just a darker shade of yellow) and his loving personality won us over.
Bio: Finn is a handsome dog! He is now (03.2009) a lean, athletic 5year old dog, weighing in at about 65 pounds, 24 inches tall. He has some funny little quirks, and, it makes him an awesome dog to be around. When I come home, he hops like a rabbit (straight up in the air, all four feet off the floor) and his snout (between his nose and his eyes) gets scrunched up and wrinkled. With his mouth closed, he curls up the corners of his mouth into a great smile! I thought I'd miss the puppy stage, but, I don't at all. The bond we have now is irreplaceable and he has so much character, I wouldn't trade the dog he's become for any puppy!
Finn's a dock jumping fool, now, and as of the end of 2008, his best jump is 22'3"! He loves to compete, and so do I! A new event has been added to the Dock Dogs events, and Finn's great at it. It's all about how fast the dog can leave the dock and get the toy at the end of the pool (21 feet on the dock and 40 feet in the pool), and his best time is just under 7 seconds (which never wins, but it's still fast!). We are sponsored by Zuke's, so be sure to check their site out at www.zukes.com for some awesome, all natural, made in the USA dog treats! And, tell 'em FINN SENT YOU!
Finn has a brother and sister. Freckles (a mutt, maybe Jack Russell/Whippet/Basenji/something) and Dudley (a miniature schnauzer) are wonderful dogs and they all get along great!
Forums Motto: Play hard!
Agility: We just started a basic agility class two weeks ago, and are really having fun. I don't know that we'll compete, but I really just wanted to try it out. I hope it helps him with his focus and control, and I know it will be a great bonding experience for us!
Mom has started taking me to compete in the sport of dock jumping! So far, we've entered two events and I won second place in the amateur finals in our second competition! I jumped 18'11"! I have only gotten to practice one time outside of the events, and I jumped over twenty feet, because Mom finally started working on her throws and our timing. We have a lot of fun, and we are going to enter a competition in Grapevine, Texas next weekend. I am really good at it and can't wait to do it again.
We have moved back to Texas and have been here almost a year. Our family is bigger, now! Mom is engaged to a great guy and I have a brother and sister, now. Freckles and Dudley are great to play with and we run around outside and go places with Mom and Dad all the time. We especially love driving down to Louisiana to be with our Grandparents. They have two dogs and a really big yard. We get lots of love from everyone and are always really tired when we get back home.
Mom and I moved all the way from Texas to South Carolina last Saturday. The ride was boring - all I did was sleep in the front seat - but, it's been a lot of fun since we got here. Grandma and Grandpa live right on the lake, so, I've been swimming every day! Grandpa is retired, so, he's here with me all the time. I can't wait to go out on his boat with him. Right now, though, I'm a little too excited! Mom has to hold me down when we're in the boat, I just can't contain myself. There's so much water, but, I guess I can't jump in when we're moving. Maybe one day, I'll chill out. Mom is home a lot, too, because she's still looking for a job. I'm ok with her being unemployed, that just means more time for me. But, I guess she has to get something so that we can eat and stuff. ;) But, for now, things are great, and, everyone is happy!
