Arrival Story: My friend, Tracy, called me at home to tell me there was a pet adoption fair happening next to our workplace, so I went down with no intention other than to look at the dogs. There was a kennel with 5 5-week old puppies - 3 black with tan markings, 1 all tan, and 1 red with tan markings and blue eyes - and the mom was in the next crate. The puppies were rescued from a trailor park at 3 days old, and the mom was rescued a few days later. I held the red puppy (Rosie) in my lap for nearly 2 hours while she slept and I fell in love. I went through the interview process, and was almost denied because the rescue did not want to adopt their puppies out to a single person. However, they approved my application and she was mine! The foster mom came to pick the dogs up because they were still too young to leave the litter, and she told me that Rosie was the "wild one of the bunch." What an understatement that turned out to be! I finally brought Rosie home on November 8, 2003 and renamed her Mara for her blue eyes.

Bio: Mara is very protective of her Mama and their home and car. She doesn't like children too much, but I think it has a lot more to do with people who are shorter than me! She fiercely loves to play ball, but will discriminately choose toys from her overflowing toybox to bring to her people.
She has two great friends, Hops and Wiley. Hops is just like an older sister to Mara and gets annoyed by her energetic attention, but Mara can't get enough of her! Wiley is Mara's boyfriend (at least that's what she thinks). Mara is always excited to play with Wiley and paw for his attention, even though he may not always be in the mood.

Forums Motto: Cheese, please.
