Leave a bone for Pepper

Nicknames: Peppie, Pepita, Kaba-ken, Geta-face (the latter only when young and veeery homely)

Quick Bio:
Likes: Walks, tug-o-war, the song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"

Pet-Peeves: Not being allowed to go into rooms with tatami mats on the floor.

Favorite Toy: An old sock

Favorite Food: Any and everything

Favorite Walk: Down the hill and all around it between the rice paddies

Arrival Story: Many kittens and puppies are abandoned by the road in Japan. A young friend picked up two that appeared to be sisters. Her family kept one, which turned out to look like a small, one-color sheltie, and we kept the other, which eventually got long, easily matted hair and looked like an English sheepdog or some sort of terrier.

Bio: Peppie was the smartest dog we ever owned and had a wonderful personality. After she got her adult hair, she was also beautiful, though in most of the pictures we have, she is not, as the lovely hair that hung down over her face has been cut off so she could see better; in fact, we would crop her fur all over, to help her get through the muggy Japanese summer. When we first cut her bangs, she ran around, tossing her head as if she were trying to see where they had gone to, but after that, she seemed delighted with her clearer vision.
Seeing how she looked as a young dog, it is hard to believe that the dog in the last picture is the same one, isn't it? When I took her for walks, the Japanese would be mystified and ask what breed she was. Sometimes I said jokingly that she was a "kaba-ken"--"hippotamus dog"; that is what she look like at one stage. I'm sorry to say that we only had Peppie for 6 years, as she developed kidney failure.
