Arrival Story: I always had wanted a little black dog with floppy ears. Back in 1994, I was real sick with a bad kidney infection and I was really bummed out. I really wanted a puppy so I went to the local humane society and I saw this little black dog with floppy ears. He was so adorable! I fell in love with him instantly. We took Jake out for a walk to get acquainted (his name was "Shortie" at the time) and he was turned in because his owners were moving - but his little card said he likes to sleep in the bed with someone. He was very quiet and I commented on how quiet he was and one of the workers said, Shortie quiet? Oh no, just wait. So we adopted him and took him over my parent's house so he could meet his grandparents. We wanted to name him Killer but my dad took one look at him and said he looks like a Jake. We all agreed and Jake it was. Jake was 6 months old and 8 pounds when we brought him home and his ears were floppy. As he grew up, he gained weight and his ears became erect. Shortly after we adopted him, he came down with worms and mange. He was successfully treated and he was a healthy, happy dog for 11 years.

Bio: Jake was my best friend and he is missed very much. He was such a smart little guy and he brought so much joy during his 11 years with us. Jakey-- mommy, Johnny & gramma & grandpa love you and miss you so much. Jake was diagnosed with nasal adenocarcinoma in February of 2005 and my parents had to put him to sleep on June 13, 2005. I was out of state when he was put to sleep. To this day, it still breaks my heart that I could not be there when my little boy left this earth but I know that he was in very good hands as he passed on while my parents held him in their arms.
Jake was my best friend and my baby. I will never forget him and the bond we shared will live in my heart forever.

Mommy has been crying lately when she looks at my pictures and thinks of me. She really misses me and I miss her too. I don't want mommy to cry. I miss her too and I miss my gramma and grandpa and my step daddy Johnny. I really really miss them all so much and I know they miss me. I have made so many new friends here at the bridge and everyone has been so nice to me. I want mommy to smile when she remembers me. You guys gave me a wonderful life an you did everything you could for me. It was just my time to go. I understand, I really do.
Today mommy read the rainbow bridge poem and it made her cry. So she framed it and put it next to my pictures. It looks very nice and I think mommy likes it too. Please mommy try not to cry too much, it will give you a migraine. I love you mommy forever and ever!
Love,
Jake
