Arrival Story:
George was turned into a shelter (trying to pinpoint why) before ending up in foster care with Another Chance for English Setters rescue. He was with his previous foster mom for a while before being transferred here when he proved a handful to train. He was participant in a 40+ dog transport starting in FL and ending in CT or NH, and we had to go pick him up whenever he passed us by. The result: waiting in a gas station parking lot at 1:00am for half an hour. When the wonderfully furnished trailer pulled up with its precious cargo, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew that George was very energetic and still very much a puppy despite his age, and that I'd have my hands full. I had seen pictures of him but they didn't do him justice at all. The dog that came out of the kennel was hyper and could have cared less that I was at the other end of his leash. He was wildly pulling on the leash toward traffic and didn't potty when I walked him. We got into our truck where he had to sit in the middle of the seat for the transport home- the car couldn't be used that night. He leaned into me like he had been on a thousand car rides and rode quietly home. He needed a bath and took it like a champ, even though he had had a long day and it was 2:30 when we got home and met the cats and other dogs. We fostered him for months, strengthening his bond with people and teaching him things he never learned before. After fostering for a few months, there was an adoption- he adopted our hearts! SO he is here to stay!

Bio:
To be added later... here's his writeup from the ACES site, though: By George (A1214) I think he's got it! This dog is a bundle of love and energy. At 1.5 years of age, this gorgeous tricolor boy is still very much a puppy, and he comes into every situation as though it is new and exciting. A smart boy, George learned his name, "come", and "sit" (with hand signal) in the first two days he was in our home. He now sits very eagerly on his own for treats, dinner, walks, and "R-I-D-Es" (don't say it unless you mean it!) He knows "crate" so well, it's a joy to give him the command, and at bed time he trods right in and sits to wait for his reward. He's doing well with "inside" and "outside", and is getting the hang of commands like "go potty!" and "get down" (from furniture, etc). He is learning new things and reinforcing his current command repertoire every day. I expect that his only limitation will be his owner's desire to teach him. With his agile body and sharp mind, this is an all purpose dog! He would love to participate in hunting, agility, obedience, anything where he can be outside and with his people. Most folks with setters will tell you of the breed's love for people and need to be part of the family. George is no exception. Don't choose him if you don't want a snuggly companion to curl up with on the sofa. In fact, when he's not playing or enjoying the great outdoors, he prefers to be sitting in your lap or beside you with his head and paws on your knee. He desires affection and gives what he receives ten-fold. He even gives kisses if you're lucky! George is an extrovert who loves other animals. He likes to play with my dogs and will even try to engage a cat or two in his antics (just between you and me, this isn't the success he thinks it is and he often wanders off alone!) I have birds, and he is completely drawn to them, and I think he'll be a great hunter. We let him run and exercise in a big fenced field and he will work and range when he finds a scent that interests him. He is really very good, and has a beautiful point! *We intend to train George to put his instincts to good use and hopefully he'll be hunting and trialling some day!
