Arrival Story:
I had just lost my dog of 13 and a half years and was at a fundraiser for rescue animals when a vet tech rushed in with this six week old puppy that had been runover and dumped like a useless piece of trash with the entire litter at a vet's office. He was going to be euthanized because the injury to his right rear leg was so severe. Despite his injuries and bad human experience, he was always ready to give puppy kisses to any new face. He immediately made my heart swell and I took him home on the spot. The vets said his leg would never grow, the missing metatarsal pad would never regenerate and the infection was too severe, so they recommended amputation. We refused to believe this and gave him antibiotics for the infection and had them splint the leg. After a month in the splint and regular bandage changes, he decided he was ready to heal and chewed his cast off. Within days, a black heart appeared on his tail and his leg and foot began to grow. He is a happy healthy dog now with most of his metatarsal pad regenerated and his leg is almost the same size as his other rear leg. He loves to run, jump, play and give kisses. He is an amazing, faithful, loving companion
