 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: September 15th 2003
Likes: Running, chasing, jumping, splashing, rolling, digging, and resting at the beach preferably while chewing on a red rubber ball.

Pet-Peeves: The vacuum cleaner, the door of the closet where the vacuum cleaner "lives" being open, squirrels and cats who "invade" her backyard, skateboarders, motorcycles, cars that drive too fast, busses, nail clipping, and bathtime!

Favorite Toy: A furry tree stump with three squeaky squirrels, squeaky tennis balls and a red rubber ball.

Favorite Food: Anything that has been turned into "jerky", moo tubes, bully sticks and just about anything covered in cream cheese.

Favorite Walk: Along the Great Highway and down to the beach!

Best Tricks: Opening closed peanut butter jars after getting them out of pillowcases that have been tied shut which were placed in shoe boxes with the lids on and hidden under a chair. The first time she did this it took 7 minutes. :)

Arrival Story: Abandoned to a shelter by her owners at 7 months old, Sadie (then Sasha) was very close to being put down when a volunteer contacted Border Collie Rescue of Northern California. The volunteer saved her life and "hid" Sadie for the few days it took rescue to come get her. She spent the next 2 months in rescue with a wonderful foster mom. We fell in love with her picture on the bcrescue website and were thrilled that she was described as gentle and low energy (at least for a border collie!) which was a great fit for our city lifestyle.
When we got her at 9 months she was still shy, scared, painfully thin and losing her dull, brittle coat. While she happily played with other dogs, she was scared of people and extremely reactive to almost everything else. We think that her first owners left her alone and outdoors for long periods of time as it became clear that she was not well socialized. It didn't take us long to realize that our "rescue" needed a great deal more rescuing than we thought!
More than a year later, Sadie has made TREMENDOUS progress. Most of the credit goes to an amazing team (one spectacular trainer, two fantastic dog walkers, a staff of great day-care providers and a wonderful, compassionate vet) who adored Sadie and worked very hard to "train" us so that we could help her!

Bio: Sadie is unbelievably curious about everything -- hence her motto: Why?
Why can't I find the bacon that I am sure is buried in the yard?
Why doesn't the rain stop when I stare at it really hard?
Why does the vacuum cleaner have to come out of the closet?
Why does my treat ball stop giving me treats even though I keep rolling it around?
Why do birds fly away when I'm only trying play with them?
Why do I need to lie down (or high-five or turn around) to get the treat?
If I can see the sheep on tv, why won't they come when I bark at them?

Forums Motto: Why?
