Arrival Story:
Bear came into the local shelter so matted it was hard to tell he was a dog. His toe nail on one of his back feet had grown all the way around and through the pad, then back around and through again (the toe had to be removed). He was underweight and terrified. I got into his kennel and he climbed in my lap. And that was it lol.

Bio:
Bear is terrified of grey haired men, brooms and rakes.

An entry from mom...

When I got to work this morning my supervisor had found a little white dog in the road, so she picked it up and brought it to me… I took one look at it and said it needed to go to the vet. One eye had a definite ulcer on it, it was swollen runny and red, the other eye had a cataract. His tongue was hanging out so I didn’t know if he’d been hurt and had a broke jaw or had no teeth. He also wobbled when he walked. So we rushed him down to Jones Animal Hospital. Apparently he was just really old and had not been taken care of. He only had two teeth, was very skinny and matted. We think he was a Maltese/Poodle mix. The vet said to get him healthy it would take 4-500 and that’s only if the eye responded to medication and didn’t need to be removed. Plus he would need surgery on luxating patellas. It really pisses me off that people just don’t take care of their dogs. This poor boy had been wandering out deaf and mostly blind for who knows how long. He had no collar, no identification of any kind. And instead of someone being a responsible owner me and my supervisor had to make the decision to put the dog down. He was probably 9-11 years old and if he had been well cared for and these problems taken care of when they first appeared, he would never have gotten in this shape. We named him Oakley and loved him and spoiled him as much as we could in the hour and a half that we knew him.

Mom got back online! Woo HOO!

We've got a new dog park in our area, been open a few months now. everytime I go I have to let all the other dogs know that I'm the boss. I mainly just supervise their play. I'm very selective about who I socialize with. A big dog named Homer (a newfie) really likes me but I've put him in his place several times. I just dont put up with things like that. Once they know I'm the boss, they usually leave me alone and play with my big sister, Cleo, who I really dont like, but put up with. She's a lab mix so she thinks everyone loves her. I let her believe that most of the time

Boy do I love snow! I hate rain, but snow is so much fun. I've been wrestling with my sister in it. :)
