When I got to work this morning my supervisor had found a little white dog in the road, so she picked it up and brought it to me… I took one look at it and said it needed to go to the vet. One eye had a definite ulcer on it, it was swollen runny and red, the other eye had a cataract. His tongue was hanging out so I didn’t know if he’d been hurt and had a broke jaw or had no teeth. He also wobbled when he walked. So we rushed him down to Jones Animal Hospital. Apparently he was just really old and had not been taken care of. He only had two teeth, was very skinny and matted. We think he was a Maltese/Poodle mix. The vet said to get him healthy it would take 4-500 and that’s only if the eye responded to medication and didn’t need to be removed. Plus he would need surgery on luxating patellas. It really pisses me off that people just don’t take care of their dogs. This poor boy had been wandering out deaf and mostly blind for who knows how long. He had no collar, no identification of any kind. And instead of someone being a responsible owner me and my supervisor had to make the decision to put the dog down. He was probably 9-11 years old and if he had been well cared for and these problems taken care of when they first appeared, he would never have gotten in this shape. We named him Oakley and loved him and spoiled him as much as we could in the hour and a half that we knew him.

Well, Mom called a new vet yesterday but they don't do the surgery I will eventually need on my knee. So they referred her to Jonesborough Animal Hospital or Elizabethton Animal Hospital. So we went back to Northridge, who did the original diagnosis and said they could do the surgery if it became necessary. She talked to Dr. Phil (i cant spell his last name) about my bladder problem and my limping. Dr. Phil changed my pain meds and tested me for a bladder infection or uti. There appears to be nothing wrong with me, so Dr. Phil said i just cant always hold it. I have accidents in my sleep a lot. Dr. Phil put me on a new medicine to give me better control and I didnt have an accident last night!!! YIPPEE! Maybe Mom will let me keep sleeping in the bed :)

Mom got really mad at me last night, I had two accidents in the bed. She threatened to not let me sleep with her anymore. I've had a few in the past few weeks and I dont know why. I'll be asleep and all the sudden i'm in a puddle. Mom called the vet this morning and is going to take me in. I'm not too happy about that, but if it makes mom happy that's ok. I get upset when mom's upset. Mom knows I dont do it on purpose but she really doesnt like having to change the sheets and all that... plus the mattress gets wet and that's not fun (for her or me). The vet thinks it may be a urinary tract infection or i might just have bladder problems. He said either way it was fixable with medicine.
He's also going to put me pain meds for my knee. I tore my ACL a couple months ago and I limp a lot at times. I've been on asprin, but it makes my tummy upset. I've also been on rymadil but that can cause problems if I stay on it long. So we're trying to find something that wont make me sick but makes me feel better. I'm on a joint supplement too and it helps a lot but some days I still hurt.
Mom keeps complaining because all her dogs end up with problems. I told her she just picks them good. My brother has an enlarged liver and skin problems and is allergic to Chicken Beef and Rice. I think Mom just likes to complain.
Anyways, hopefully my visit to the vet will turn out ok and things will be better soon. I dont want to have to sleep in my crate, I really like the bed. Mom even got a bigger bed so there was room for all of us.
