Happy 2010 to all!!!

Wow I can't believe how long it's been since my Mom typed a diary entry for me. Things have been busy for her I guess.

We found a home for one of the kitties. Someone who works with Mom took Missy, a beautiful gray tiger. She was pretty shy at first and hid all the time. But the person was smart and patient enough to know she just needed time to settle in. She had only known life on the street and then life with me and Mom. She has finally settled in and become quite affectionate.

We took a road trip at Thanksgiving to meet my Aunt Cheryl and her family for lunch. I got two new stuffie/squeaky toys from my Aunt Cheryl - a hamburger and a dolphin. They squeak just right!!!

We went to Williamsburg, VA in December. We drove down and my Aunt Cheryl drove up. On Saturday we went to Colonial Williamsburg. Holly and Max from Adventure Dogs were there too. We had a great time!!! Dogs can't go into houses and shops but otherwise it is very dog friendly there. Everyone made such a fuss over us. We are just so cute and friendly!!! There was a Humane Society that was selling all sorts of stuff to benefit homeless animals. We got some yummy food and I got a very cool Christmas bandana. My Mom also put a bow on their tree in honor of me, our horse Half Moon Bay and Molly Bunny.

Holly and Max had to go home on Sunday. Me and Mom and Aunt Cheryl stayed til Tuesday. We visited several wineries. Of course!!! We drove up the Chesapeake Bay and I got to walk on the beach. That was great fun. We saw some really pretty Christmas light exhibits in Newport News and on the boardwalk at VA Beach. You actually get to drive down the boardwalk. We walked out on the beach but I wasn't too sure about the noise from the waves. And it was dark!!! Of course I got to share lots of picnics and leftovers and got lots of treats. And our room had TWO beds!!!

The next week Mom was busy with her Santas for the Homeless thing. People get food, clothes and toiletries together, meet on Christmas Eve and put everything into gift bags and hand them out.

Our best friend Jerry had to go into the hospital just before Christmas. He is doing very well. Knock wood!!! But please send him healing thoughts. Mom is thinking of disguising me as a Therapy Dog so I can visit. I am sure I could cheer everyone up and I am VERY well behaved.

Everything was so hectic at Christmas that we haven't yet met up with my Aunt Cheryl and her family. We will be doing that next weekend. I can't wait as I know she has at least two more presents for me!!! And I love a roadtrip!

It has been VERY cold here in DC. Mom has been putting out lots of food for the stray and ferals and giving them warm water morning and night. She has to go out to the stable and make up beet pulp mashes for my horse sister Half Moon Bay and give her hot water too.

I hope you are all warm and happy!!!

I have been a busy bee the past couple of months. My Meetup Group organizer Holly (VA Adventure Dogs) has been keeping us busy with fun things that we can do with our pup parents.

We went to Barrel Oak Winery's Dog Days of Summer on August 2nd. This is a really cool place where dogs can even go in the tasting area. A DC rescue, Lucky Dog, was having a fundraiser so we drank for a good cause. BOL!!

Om August 15th we went to the Dog Days Peach and Sunflower Festival at Great Country Farms in Bluemont, VA. There were all kinds of farm animals, an obstacle course for dogs to practice on, a pond to swim in and we even went on a wagon ride to pick peaches. Bluemont Winery just across the street got in on this too. Not only did we get in to the tasting room, but the pup parents had their tasting at the table. We all got to share fresh bread and yummy cheeses. The pups didn't get any wine but someone has to find the way home. The people at the next table loved me and I got cheese and sausage from them. Yummy!!! My Aunt Cheryl was up for a visit and she went too. That made it even more fun.

The next day me, Mom and Aunt Cheryl went down Route 5 in MD in search of lighthouses. We found a couple, along with a great Civil War cemetary and memorial. The lighthouse on Solomon's Island had burnt down but we had a great late lunch at the Catmarran. The hostess and waitress were really nice to me. I even got a bowl of ICE water! We has ice cream cones for dessert and then headed home.

On August 29th we had a Day out in Annapolis. We went on two cruises, walked around the Naval Academy grounds, bought picnic fixins and went to a free concert in the Quiet Waters Park. Mom won a raffle and got a coupon for ice cream. I hope we can get back to use it. I LOVE ice cream!!!

We have a new family member, Molly. She is a 4 month old Lionshead bunny that Mom adopted. She is really cute. I think she likes me.

That's it for now. Hope all you pups are having a PAWSOME summer!!!!

Happy Spring!!!

My Mom has been crazy busy and we didn't log in for awhile. It was good to catch up on all the news with my pup pals. My Mom is on night shift at work this weekend and played that identify a dog game to pass some time. She won 50 zealies!! I gots to send prezzies to all my pals. That was fun!!!

We went to the wine festival with the NOVA Adventure Dogs. It was pretty hot that day so we cut it short and grabbed a spot in the shade at a very dog friendly restraunt. They brought us bowls of water and everyone made of us. It was great!!! Afterwards we went to a really nice dog park but we were too hot and tired to play much. Mom and I came home and took a nap. BOL!!!

We went on a hike at the National Arboretum with the NOVA Trail Dogs. Mom enjoyed all the beautiful flowers. I had a great time at the "unofficial" dog park we found by the river. Except for when I slipped off the dock into the river. That was not fun!!! Mom and another pup's Mom came flying and pulled me out. Maybe I should learn to swim? But definitely not in such deep water.

I have been to a couple of the dog parks several times this month. We've been walking around DC. I got to go to a cool restraunt at Eastern Market when my Mom met a friend for dinner. We may go on a cruise and then to a Yappy Hour next month. Mom isn't sure just how I will do on a boat. She wants to take me car camping at the ocean this summer too.

We are going to be moving 6 of the younger ferals that Mom wasn't succesful with socializing completely to my Aunt Cheryl's next month. She lives out in the country. They will be outside cats there. Safer than the DC streets for sure but I know it's hard for my Mom to do. We found a good home for a friendly one. Yeah!!! Mom was very happy about that. We still need to find homes for some 6 month old kittens. They're beautiful so if you're in the market please let us know. Unfortunately we may have to euthanize one of the older ferals. He is FIV positive and hasn't been doing well lately. He is going to the feral spay/neuter clinic today to get checked out.

That's pretty much it for now. Play hard and make sure you get lots of treats!!!

Hello everypup!!!

It has been awhile since my last entry. Things have been very busy. My Mom was away for a weeks vacation in March. I stayed with my pup pals Jax and Chimani and had a vacation of my own. BOL!

We have joined two doggie groups at Meetup. One is NOVA Trail Dogs. We had a full moon hike around the monuments in DC and that was really cool. This was my first group walk and my Mom was very proud of what a good girl I was. Last Saturday we went on a Bluebell hike at a VA State Park. It was raining and there were lots of HUGE puddles but I went through them bravely. The other dogs got to be offleash as no one else was around. My Mom wanted to let me run free but was a little unsure. Maybe next time... But we had fun. I guess the Bleubells were pretty but they weren't very tasty. Yuk!!

The other group we have joined is Adventure Dogs. The first meetup is this week and it's a Yappy Hour at a hotel in Alexandria. We're also signed up to go to a wine tasting later this month.

I had a pup pal for a sleepover last weekend. Her name was Kinzee. Her foster parents were going away for the Easter weekend and she needed a temporary foster. We had a great time!!! She is a great dog. Very friendly, sweet and playful. I hope she finds a really good, forever home soon. I think my Mom would have liked to adopt her for us but she isn't really sure yet about a second dog. It's nice to have a playmate but me amd Mom have a special realationship and it's fine with just the two of us. Plus we are able to help with the rescue dogs sometimes. That is important too.

Kinzee didn't get to go on the hike but she went with us for a walk at the National Arboretum on Sunday. It was a beautiful day and there were lots of people. Everyone made of us and we enjoyed that a lot. Kinzee is only about 10 months old but she was very well behaved. We were very proud of her.

I had to go to the vet Monday morning as I seemed to have a urinary tract infection. I am on antibiotics for two weeks. Mom puts them in the pill poppers things so it isn't bad at all.

We tried cutting my Phenobarb back a little more (with the vet's agreement) as I haven't had any seizures for a very long time. Unfortunately I had one Saturday afternoon. Mom put my dose back up right away. After the UTI is gone we'll check with the vet about trying again maybe. But I am on a very low dose and my last bloodwork was fine.

Well that's about all the news for now. Take care pup pals!!!!

Love,

Daysy

Welcome to the new edition of "2009 Get to Know Your Pals"

Copy this diary entry, and paste it into your diary. Read then delete my answers. Then you can fill in your own! We can get to know our pals better!! Have fun!! Then send a rosette to 4 pals and ask them to post it in their diary!!!!

1. What color is your collar?
It is lavendar with darker purple relective bones.

2. What kind of food do you eat?

That would be Mr. Squeaky II. He's a caterpillar with all sections a different bright color. I also really like this green witch head I got for Halloween.

Sad and Happy....

I'm sad because my little Sunny Bunny lost the fight on Monday, January 26. He started going downhill really fast so my Mom took him to the vet so he wouldn't suffer. We both miss him very much. He will always be in our hearts. He was my Mom's Sunshine. She use to sing him that song....

I'm also sad because a cat was stoned to death by some kids in a DC neighborhood not far from ours last Thursday. Why must people be so ignorant and cruel?

I'm happy because we met with my Aunt Cheryl last Sunday to celebrate her and my Mom's birthdays. I slept in the car with my toys while they had lunch. Then we went to an old canal and walked along the path there. I got to say "Hello" to some very nice folks and their wrinkly dog. I love saying hello!!! My Aunt Cheryl gave me a new toy, too. Love new toys!

I'm also happy because my Mom and I will be house and dog sitting for my pup pals Jax and Chimani this month. Their Mom is getting married. We will be with them for 17 days. They live in Alexandria, VA and have a yard to play in. It's a nice place to walk, too. No big, loud trucks and buses. We are hoping my Aunt Cheryl will come for a weekend visit while we are there.

I'm looking forward to getting Valentine's cards from my pup pals in the For the Love of Bullies Group. We exchanged cards at Christmas and it was a lot of fun.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! Hope you get lots of treats and belly rubs.

XOXOXO

Happy New Year!!!

Hope every pup had a great holiday season. We ended up staying home at Christmas because of my little bud Sunny Bunny being sick. He's doing pretty well now and on meds for E. cuniculi, a parasite that rabbits can get. My Mom has been researching it and telling me about it. It's wierd.... I guess they get it as babies but don't have symptoms until they gets older. So we met my human Aunt and cousin for lunch the Saturday before Christmas. As usual I enjoyed the ride. I did play with one of my toys a bit which surprised my Mom as I usually just sleep. Though it's hard to play with that darn seat belt harness on. But it makes my Mom happy.

The "Littles" are growing like weeds. They had their first shots. And they no longer hiss and spit at me. :) Mom says she saw one more a couple of times but hasn't been able to catch it. She hopes to catch it soon or it will be much harder to socialize. If there were four they could go in pairs and not be lonely without a playmate.

She broke down and got a camera to take pictures of all the cats she is trying to find homes for. I hopes me and Sunny gets pictures of us too. We gots cool Christmas cards from some of our Dogster pals and most had their pics on the cards. That was cool.

DC is getting to be a very busy place with the new Prez arriving and all the inauguration stuff getting close. It's a very exciting time to be a pup here!!

Well, that's it for now. Later!!

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

Hope everydog (and cat, and bunny, and, well, you get the picture) had a good Thanksgiving. We had a very quiet day at home as we had already met up with my human Aunt Cheryl and her family on Sunday. It was a nice ride as the weather was beautiful.

I am hoping that we can go to her house at Christmas for a few days. We have to make sure that Sunny Bunny and all the kitties are taken care of though. We will be taking the newest bunch - Mom calls them the "Littles" - with us. She brought them in from the alley about a week ago. There are three of them and they are very cute little balls of fluff. They still hiss and spit at me a bit but I think I am winning them over. :) Mom says there are two more but she hasn't seen them since she caught these three. We both hope some other nice person has taken them in. A DC alley is no place for little guys like this. We hope to find them homes after the holidays. So if anyone is looking for a fluffy ball of love let us know.

Sadly we lost one of the ferals, Inky. He had injured his leg and developed a bad infection. Mom took him to the vet. He was on all kinds of medicine but they couldn't make him better. I'm not sure what FIV + is but Mom says that didn't help. I am glad he spent his last weeks in a warm house with us though. He did not hiss and spit at me.

I wish people would spay and neuter their pets and not dump them on the street. My Mom feeds them and gets them altered and vaccinated and some friends built a couple of houses for them , but we worry about them. Especially my Mom. And they are so hard to catch if they need the vet. She has been trying to catch Mr. Grumpy for over a week. He needs to see the vet for a skin issue. We also think we may have to send Ghost to be with Inky. He has a bad upper respiratory infection and is FELV +. So sad......

So please take a moment and hug your pet. Take it from me, they are grateful to be loved and cared for. And please think of helping less fortunate animals over the holidays and in the future.

Hello to all the pups out there!

And especially all my new pup pals. Wow!!!

I'm not very good with this diary thing. Guess I get that from my Mom. But a lot has been going on. My Mom was in an accident and had a broken arm and a crumpled car. Both are better now. Thank Dog it wasn't worse! And she is thankful that I wasn't with her.

Last week we visited my human Aunt Cheryl in NC again. She and my Mom went "wineing". Not to be confused with "whining". HaHa! Anyway I got in a lot of snooze time. Not to worry... It was cool with a breeze, they leave the windows open a bit and the sun roof, and always parked in the shade. This was nice because when it's hot I can't go with them on their adventures. I used to travel in a crate but I now have a seat belt harness because they are supposed to be safer. It's padded and comfy and I'm OK with it. Though I still try to go further than my limits. It makes my Mom laugh but then she apologizes.

Some news from my hometown is that in new animal protection legislation dogs can only be deemed dangerous by their actions and not by their breed. A BIG step, especially for DC. My Mom is also happy to see the HSUS support Obama. We've researched him and know how he votes for animals. That and the environment are biggies for us. So please vote for my guy Bark!! :)

We're sorry to see the continuing posts about animal abuse. The "trunking" thing is reallly disturbing.............. We will be on the lookout and you should too. On a happier note our rescue Lizzie went to a great home. I do miss her though. We actually became great buds. We haven't taken in any more. My Mom is concerned as to whether it upsets me too much. We will see and I'll let you know if we get another.

Wwll, guess that's all for now. I'm gumming up the keys with the peanut butter and Mom won't be happy.

Bye from Daysy...........

Long time, no see..........

Hello all. Things have been very busy at my household. I've been on several trips to NC with my Mom. I love roadtrips!!! She took a few trips without me but it's OK because I got to stay with my friends, Chimani and Jax. They are RR like me. Chimani is my special friend. He loves to play rough and since he is so big he doesn't mind when I bang into him.

My Mom is trying to "socialize" five alley kittens. Good luck with that Mom!!!
She has also started to foster dogs for a rescue. So far we've had two. Glitter was lucky enough to find her forever home in less than a week. She was a great playmate but trashed her crate and barked at the roommates. Lizzy is with us now. She barks and growls at me when I get on the couch with my Mom but otherwise is quiet. I guess she's never had her own "person" before. So sad..... But hopefully soon.

I have a great new playmate, Kuma. We have been to the dog park twice and it's such a blast. Can't wait til next time!!! Woof! Woof!!!

My birthday is coming up in April. I got an early present. My Mom has been looking for a new Mr. Squeaky and finally found one that's close. He's bigger with different legs and not as many squeakers but he's very cool. Of course I still have the old Mr. Squeaky. He is in my crate for company when Mom is at work.

Well thats all the news for now. Take care everyone!!

Wags and kisses,

Daysy
