Leave a bone for Penny (1994-2005)

 Quick Bio:
Likes: She LOVED people! She made many friends in her lifetime and created many wonderful memories.

Pet-Peeves: She did not like to be related to as a "dog"- she considered herself an equal!

Favorite Toy: Larry the Lobster, Buzz Lightyear Doll, her little sister Pono.

Favorite Food: Raw bones, steak, buttered toast, peanut butter dog cookies.

Favorite Walk: She loved to go camping in the desert or the mountains- anywhere she could rockhop and investigate.

Best Tricks: Penny knew several cool tricks- and she was good at all of them (especially when there were treats to be earned)!

Arrival Story: After a disastrous and painful exeprience, I had permanently sworn off dog ownership when a dear friend asked me to go with him to look at a litter of pups resulting from an "unauthorized date" between two purebred dogs. They were a lively bunch and in true Labrador style, they fell all over themselves and tended to act before thinking. All except for one savvy little girl who appeared very observant and wise beyond her weeks. She steered clear of the puppy fracas at my feet and sat, looking me straight in the eye. We connected right away and before I knew what I was saying, I consented to take her home for a trial period. That was 11 years and many, many adventures ago...

Bio: Penny was an amazing creature with an indomitable spirit and a true zest for life. After surviving Parvo and later, a run-in with a truck in her early years, she went on to become a registered therapy dog with an incredible repertoire of commands and tricks and enjoyed a full life helping head-injury survivors, spending summers at a camp for kids with special needs in Malibu, and visiting hospitalized patients and staff. She dined on Filet Mignon in Yosemite and fried chicken in Mammoth and lived each moment to the fullest. She had a ready smile and gentle tail wag to offer right up until the day she crossed to the Rainbow Bridge. She was the rock in my river and my best friend. I miss you Penny-Girl. Rest easy my love, until we meet again.

Forums Motto: A dog of peace and tranquility.

My sweet girl, not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Sometimes your memory sneaks up on me and the absence of you leaves me in a cold shock and I am left, unsteady on my feet, staggering under the weight of my grief. Other times, it is a warm and comforting memory that envelops me and I remember how near you really are; in a different form, more ethereal, but just as loyal and loving as before. These are the moments when I can almost feel the silk of your ears on my fingertips, the warmth of your breath on my cheek, and it helps me to somehow find the strength to go on another day...
I'm not gone...not really.
I haven't gone away...I've only gotten bigger.
My eyes, so bright, now shine among the stars.
My voice sings with the wind in winter, as I leap
And dance among the tree tops.
I stalk the blown leaves in autumn, and brush the
Flowers gently in the spring.
I come to you in dreaming, on feet grown dreamtime soft,
And lay my cheek against yours, and whisper:
"Peace be with you."
Someday we will play again together, you and I, among the stars.
'Til then, fear not to love, for your love gave my life meaning.
And I return that love to you...a hundredfold...a thousandfold...
Forever.

"Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you.
I loved you so --
'twas Heaven here with you."

Mom, I'm still here. I will never leave you. Please remember that a piece of my spirit will reside in your heart forever. It will be the beacon of light that brings us back together when you come to greet me at the Bridge. If you must weep, make them tears of joy and rememberance of a life well lived. I will always be your beloved Penny-girl and will watch over you in spirit until we can be together again!
" They will not go quietly, the dogs who've shared our lives,
In subtle ways they let us know their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think we hear a barking at the door
Or step back when we drop a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place the food dish used to be,
And sometimes, coming home at night, we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends and a new food dish to fill
That one place in our hearts belongs to them... and always will."
