Likes: FOOD, sleeping, making grunting noises when you rub his belly, treats, stealing food from his brothers, getting into the food bin, opening the trash compactor and digging for food morsels, and playing with his brothers and little sister
Pet-Peeves: not getting enough food, dogs getting too close to him when he is begging for food, getting caught with his head in the food bin
Favorite Toy: mommy's underwear, mom or dad's socks, soft doggie toys
Favorite Food: anything edible or almost edible! If Nicholas won't eat it, it shouldn't be eaten!
Favorite Walk: just loves to go on walks anywhere!
Best Tricks: Okay, I guess this is a trick, but it gets him into trouble constantly!! He knows how to step on the foot pedal that opens the trash compactor. Then he will use his paw to pull the trash compactor bin out and he just digs in! He is such a funny fattie! :)
Arrival Story: I am an elementary school teacher and I taught in a lower-end neighborhood where stray dogs were common. One day in November the cutest little puppy wandered up to the school yard. The custodian put him in a pen outside and was going to call the pound to come pick him up. I told him not to do that, because I was going to take him home with me. It was right before Thanksgiving and close to Christmas, so I named him Nicholas, after St. Nicholas. I was excited to bring him home to Sampson, who now had a partner in crime! They have been brothers ever since and love each other dearly!
Bio: He has a bit of a gas problem. Many times if he exerts some energy, he accidentally toots! For instance, if he jumps up on something, or down from something. Sometimes you can even squeeze him (like a hug) and get him to toot. It is a riot! The best is when he does it and then turns around and looks at his bootie with that "did I just do that?" look! :)

I've Been On Dogster Since:
So, I gave in and I now have perfected the art of sitting, shaking each paw, laying down, and rolling over! All for the love of food and for pleasing my parents! They are very proud of me and, I must admit, I am proud of myself too!

Are humans never satisfied? I have gotten so good at laying down on command that they won't even give me a week to rest before trying to teach me yet another trick! Geepers! Don't they know these bones need rest? So, here is the new gig dad is trying.... to get me to roll over after I lay down!!!!!!!! UGH! I may be chubby, but I am not a friggin ball! I do not roll! At least not very easily. It is quite a sight, arms and legs flailing about as dad ever-so-gently gives me a heave-ho over. Doesn't he know that makes me dizzy? I'm like mom, I get dizzy when you roll me over or spin me around! I'm not being as cooperative with this trick. I think I will continue to resist. But you never know.. I may do it for mommy like I did the lay down one. Just to tick daddy off! Hee hee!
I'll let you know what I decide. But, please, for all that is good and canine, please cross your paws that they don't try to add another trick to my repertoire!
Bye friends.
Nick
Hello friends. Nicholas here. Yeah, that is my name, but for some reason, mom and dad are always calling me Nicky-doodle and Nicky-loo. It is as if they can't remember my name or something. At any rate, I respond to whatever they say. After all, I gotta keep this meat on my bones! Oh, that reminds me of another name they call me. Chunky. I prefer fluffy or well-insulated. Bygones.
So, here is the real reason for my entry: I am a genius. I get it from my mom, if you are wondering! Dad has taught us kids lots of tricks. He has a way with us and teaching us new things. Funny though that mom is a real teacher. She teaches 5th graders, but has no patience to teach us new tricks! Woof! So, Dad has tried to teach me to lay down for a long time, but I never do. He always has to pull on my front legs until I lay down. Doesn't he know that is really annoying? Well, he wanted to bet my mom that he could teach me. She didn't take the bet, but she did say that it would be a daunting task. Then, the next day, she gets down on the floor with me and tells me to sit (which I dutifully did), then to shake one paw, and then the other (I obliged). Then, she tells me to "lay d0wn". She keeps coaxing me and smiling her big goofy smile. I decided to make her happy, so I put my legs out in front of me and layed my big 'ole belly down! My goodness! The commotion that ensued was grand! You would have thought I won the lottery with all of the pets and kisses and praise I got from her and from daddy! Not to mention the treats that I got! Wow, so much fun. I think I will continue to work on my new trick. I still am a little slow at it, and it takes some coaxing, but I eventually remember what to do. I love making my parents proud!
I'll let you know how it goes. Better get back to practicing!
Smell you later!
-Nick
