Likes: To eat! Play with my doggie sister, Roxy!
Pet-Peeves: Dogs
Favorite Toy: She is not a big toy dog, but if you shake a toy low on the ground, she does like to come and kill it.
Favorite Food: No contest: chicken!
Favorite Walk: Around the neighborhood to bark at all the dogs who live on the block!
Best Tricks: Taking pictures. When she sees the camera, she assumes there is chicken, and does sit, down, up, and then repeats them.
Arrival Story: I was looking for what was going to be my first dog ever. I had been rejected for a dog because I was a working person. I saw Chloe (then named Ta Ta) appear on a website on a Sunday evening. I asked if they'd accept an application from a first-time owner and a full-time worker. They said yes. Within the hour, I had my application in, and I was in love. The next morning, I had an e-mail, she was adopted. A couple of days later, I got a call that her adoption had fallen through, and she was available. My fence had been checked and I could have her. I was thrilled. When I went to get her, she was sick from kennel cough that she had picked up and her history was unknown. Two other dogs were being picked up and their prospective owners rejected them for being "too large" and "too small". I brought my doggie home. She didn't have anything to do with me for days.
I thought she might die, and she had several days of breathing treatments, and eventually came to trust the one who fed her and felt sorry for her when she gasped for air.
Her rescue organization, LL Dog Rescue in Kansas City, Missouri along with her vet, walked me through the entire illness because I was such a new pet owner.
Now she is a normal arrogant, independent, typical Shih-tzu! She runs the house!
Bio: 3/5/06 - Chloe changed dramatically every month for the first seven months after I adopted her. I didn't know what the "final" dog was going to end up being. When she arrived, she hid behind the couch and growled each time I tried to touch her for the first couple of days. She had come from an animal shelter to a rescue, been spayed, caught a horrible case of kennel cough and left her foster home and ended up with me. She was sick and not very trusting. She has turned into a very sweet, somewhat playful -- though obstinate -- companion.
She doesn't bark (except when she encounters a dog), but she talks to let me know she wants my attention. She leads me to her play area, the refrigerator, the doors or whatever to let me know exactly what she wants. She loves children. And I love that she loves them!
She was rejected by whoever first agreed to adopt her --probably because of her many issues. I just want to tell that person...THANK YOU!
12/13/06 - Roxy has brought Chloe out of her shell. Chloe is still afraid of dogs, and she is protected a lot by her little sister, but she is so much more confident these days. A family has done wonders for this little sweetheart!
3/3/07 It's been two years since Chloe & I adopted each other. She is hardly the same dog. She is so happy to play. She loves her doggie sister, Roxy. Children are her absolute enjoyment. She likes nothing better than food though!
At this point I've had Chloe about as long as she was in her previous life. But there are still remnants of what she has gone through. She scares easily by noise. She is afraid of dogs. She needs time to trust new people and new places. She learned some independence and it still shows through even in her dependency.
She is such a sweetie. My favorite nickname for her is Sweet-Sweet, and I simply cannot imagine who allowed her to be treated any way less than decent before. Getting Chloe added a dimension to my life that I would never had expected, and whatever I can do to make her life wonderful, she can consider it done!
3/3/08 - Today is Chloe and my 3rd adoption anniversary. She is a wonderful dog. Chloe had a hard year as she endured some pain from a bulging disc. As soon as she was better, she appeared more puppyish than she has ever been. I love to see Chloe jump up and put her front paws down in a "come play" mode when she is excited, or to hear her feet move in a quick dance when it is time to eat. Having foster dogs have helped her tremendously. She barks as dogs during walks, and she is still extremely shy, but she is not afraid like she use to be. On her 5th birthday, I'd say Chloe is happier than she has ever been, and sweeet as she has always been.
3/3/09 - It's been 4 years! It surprises me that Chloe is still changing. Her back has been bothering her. She started to sleep in the bed with me an Roxy a few months ago. She has to be carried upstairs most of the time. It has made her a more cuddly dog. She will now nudge my hand to pet her. She is actually becoming a lot more dependent than she use to be. She is not doing better around other dogs though. Chloe is a bit overweight because she LOVES to eat! She rushes to eat Roxy's food and then her own. She's a happy girl! She knows she is at home for good.

Everyone always talk about how fat I am! Well, we went to the vet for Roxy's vaccinations and my Bordatella, and our weight was only 0.2 lbs apart. It's not just me!
I'm getting to be pretty close to Roxy. Gale gets very mad at us when we join forces and won't obey her. It is usually when she calls us to go for a walk, and we look at each other and decide we are not going. Rox looks out for me, so I look out for her.
I had a good time at Halloween. We had doggie treats to hand out, but since I don't like dogs, I was just eating them. Then a group of doggies came with their family. I went NUTS! Gale said I was a very poor hostess!
Saturday, it's to the groomer. We are going to get our summer cut again. We don't like brushing. We have clothes...so I guess we will be OK.
So far this week, Rox and I have not been able to stay home while Gale was at work. We spent Monday with our friend Daisy and her mom. Roxy was OK, but I hid behind the couch. Gale said as she drove off, she saw me looking confused standing on two legs watching her and Roxy was whining. So, you'd think she would let us stay home today. NO! Just because we have workers in the house...we had to leave.
Roxy went to doggie day camp and I went to boarding today. When Roxy had day camp breaks she stayed with me. They said she explored and dog watched. When Gale watched them go get me, she saw I was in a kennel like setting.
Tomorrow, we are going to Petsmart Doggie Hotel. We will both just stay in one of their private suites. We won't like it, but maybe it won't stress me so. Roxy is not going to do day camp, so we will be together all day.
Next week, we may have to do more of the same. It's wearing us down.
I've been not able to stop my appetite. Gale said I'm greedy, but of course, I'm not. I do like the new Nutro food we are eating. We tried it before, but I didn't like it before. The Nutro lady at Petco told Gale it's probably best for Roxy's sensitive stomach and most dogs love it. Roxy is not eating it, but that is good for me. I don't usually eat her dog food, but I do eat her chicken.
We had a hamburger patty yesterday, and I still wanted my food. Gale said that my appetite is insatiable. No wonder I'm growing across!
But I am happy.
One problem I'm having is that kids either surprise me or try to pick me up and I'm snapping at them. That makes Gale very mad.
