Arrival Story:
We are his 4th owners and had taken him from family members who, though well meaning, couldn't handle him and had him chained. His first owners couldn't keep him because of a move so they left him with family members until they could find him a new home. We suspect he was abused then as these family members were also threatening to let him run away if the owners didn't find him a new home soon enough. Relatives of ours knew the owners and thought they wanted a dog. Though Buddy was happy and eager to please he had more energy and bad habits than anyone knew what to do with. After 6 months of encouraging his new owners to get him proper care and obedience we finally decided to step in and take him ourselves. He had lots of issues and was our first dog we actually tried to train but we've learned so much because of him. He was so much of a challenge at first that we were told by our first trainer not to expect much from him. We didn't give up and by the end of the 5 remaining weeks of class he was one of only two dogs that got ALL of the commands correct without any correction at all. And we didn't food train him. The other 10 dogs were food trained but we believed in just praise and the right motivation. What he's taught us most is not what we are capable of but rather what a dog is capable of. No matter how bad a dog may seem there is almost always a light at the end of the tunnel. Some tunnels are just longer than others.

Bio:
Buddy has been through beginner, intermediate and some off leash training and is also CGC certified. He also performs, with our younger female Heeler, in a little local doggie drill team for parades. The only issue we have left to deal with is his intense fear of running water from garden hoses. He's calmed down about it a little but you can see he still fears garden hoses. He lives with three cats and does great with them. He would love to chase them but most of the time he knows better. He loves to snuffle one of his cats in paricular. We are so gald we took a chance on him.

Boy! Nara and Achilles really got into it today. I don't know what it was about but it was a big fight and dad had to grab and roll both of them at the same time. I ran inside the house and hid until the dust settled. I'm still a good dog.
