Arrival Story: Risa came into our lives when we were looking for another Havanese to enrich our day to day existence. After all, we only had 3 dogs at the time. Since she's done having little ones, 'we think' and Dog Shows now that she's officially a Champion, she's living the life of leisure. We are blessed to have her with us and truly glad that Sonrisas Havanese Kennel - (Rita & Judy) allowed us to have her as she is EXTRA special. Risa earned her championship status last weekend in Brantford and is now a pet looking to get into agility. She's an amazing dog!

Last July Risa delivered six gorgeous pups into the world. The sire is also a champion, from Wincroft Kennels.
We called the pups Katsuro (who we still have), Kemi (the single female), Icee, (now named Bennie in his new forever home) Ryui (now called Murphy), Deak (now named Osito) and Chi (now named Bailey).
Risa was a 'no nonsense mom' who taught her pups to play, to go downstairs by gently nudging them down one step at a time and much more. Wasabi was the tease in the house and would often be found getting the pups barking and going. Risa didn't seem to mind.
For the first three weeks or so they mainly ate and slept, opened their eyes, opened their ears, stood, moved around, started walking mostly over each other, standing on their back legs, jumping, wrestling, playing. By the fourth week every day brought a new and wonderful revelation. Each morning there was something new. It was a rare pleasure and priviledge to watch them grow.

Risa was 1 point off from winning championship. Well, this gal shined and got her points. Having never done the show route, Sonrisas Kennel allowed us to have Risa early and finish her up by getting her ready and bringing her to the shows. As someone who never did the show route, it was an interesting look. Risa is now saying mom...let's try agility.
Risa loves walks and hikes. After winning her point, she came home and literally was so excited that she jumped in midair and twirled voicing a play growl. It was amazing to see her excitement.
We are so lucky to have her in our lives. Havanese are such great dogs and infectious too!
