Elizabethan Collar Time

I've been wearing this crazy collar for many weeks now because I have lacerations to both my corneas. It has not been fun because I hated the drops mom had to use. We're still using ointment and next Saturday, I go back to the vet for another type of medicine. I'm fine now with the ointment because every time it's "doctoring" time, I know I'm going to get a treat-treat. My canine mom, Lady, brings me my basketball when I'm being treated and licks my face to reassure me that "all is well."

We don't have a clue how this happened as I haven't been around any cats to claw at my eyes. The vet thinks maybe I ran into a bush, rocks or some kind of debris may have been thrown from a weedeater or mower as when the neighbors mow and eat, I ran crazily up and down the fence line. Mom keeps me far away from that now in case that is what caused my injured eyes.

The vet said it can take four months or longer for the entire healing to occur. I've been "injured" now since early June. Actually though, I don't mind the collar at all which really surprised mom. She figured I'd go nuts, but I didn't.

The worst thing about it is that I can't "suckle" my basketball, but as shown in one of my photos, I can still rest upon it.

The photo of me with the toothbrush is before I started wearing the collar but during my eye injuries. My eyes were so sensitive, I kept them shut or squinted for most of the time.

The last visit to the vet he said they were getting better. I hope next Saturday, they look even better yet although they are by far not healed.

Woof!!!!

Where Did I Spend My 4th Birthday?

Mom decided to go on a vacation to Virginia from June 11 through June 20.

She was gone on my 4th birthday, June 17, and where was I? I was being boarded at a very large facility; I've never been boarded before and really don't want to be again. This was not my favorite place to be because I was afraid of all the barking dogs, the thunderstorms, and people I didn't know. They had a hard time coaxing me out of the dog house for my play times.

Mom was going to let them give me a birthday party but because I was so anxious, she decided it would be too much for my nerves. She called the kennel every few days to see how I was doing. My human grown sister came to see me a few times, and how glad I was to see her. She took me on walks and brought treat-treats to me. I just didn't want her to leave.

The people were very nice to me and tried their best to make me happy, but I really missed my home and my two Moms, the human and the dog.

Well, here is the best part. Mom couldn't sleep very well at night during her vacation because she couldn't stop thinking of me and how I was doing. She saw my sweet face constantly while away from me. Mom couldn't wait to get back home and as it looks now, she won't be pulling such a stunt again. She loves me too much to see me in such a bewildered state.

My dog Mom, Lady, got to stay with her Dad (Mom's son) in a small apartment. He has a tiny Yorkie too, but we big dogs don't do so well in a little place like that when we're used to running in the wide open areas. Lady did fine though; she adjusts anywhere better than I do. Mom missed her too, but she didn't worry about her like she did with me amongst all the dogs and human strangers.

Well, since the trip, Mom's son has bought a house and moved and he said next time, he'll be able to keep me if Mom ever goes away again. That will be much better for me......and Mom too.

I survived her vacation and she survived missing me, but we're all glad to be back together again, Mom, Lady, and me. We make a great trio!!

P.S. Another cool thing that happened......When Mom left me behind at the kennel, she cried. One of the workers said she felt more sorry for Mom than for me. Ha! I knew I had my Mom wrapped around my paw!!

To my sweet Katy,

What can I say except, "I'm so glad I chose you to be my darling friend." When I look at you, tears come to my eyes because I'm so blessed by your unconditional love and devotion to me. I know I mean the world to you just like you do to me.

I'm crazy about you and love to just watch you whether you are running, barking, sleeping, or chowing down on a filled Kong. You are my entertainment, all that I will ever need. What is better than watching you love life and being quite a character?

You make me laugh because you are ever so adorabale and do the cutest and sometimes even funniest things. Your basketball ~ what a trip!! You love it so and to this day, it's still your pacifier like it was when you were 8 weeks old. It is the only toy you didn't shred to smithereens!! You also use it for a pillow to rest your chin while watching the world go by.

After working all day, I still get excited to come home to you and Lady because you are the delights at the end of a usual crazy day. The tail wagging, excited barking, and running in circles brings just a few of the simples joys of life to me. I love it when Lady's tail wags furiously and hits your face. You don't care; you just continue being excited and blink your eyes with each "whap."

You are ever so special to me, and I'm devoted to you, my little HoulaLab. Even your bratiness is part of your charm!!

KALO (Kisses and Love Only),
Mom

This is a special Tail of Devotion

It's my 3rd birthday today, June 17.

Thank you to my bio mom, Lady, for giving me life and for tolerating me still today when I'm way too frisky and romp all over you. You're the most patient mom in the world, and I love you.

And to my human mom, thank you for my great home and tender loving care. Life is so good, and I'm as happy and liberated as can be. I love you too, mom.

To my Dogster friends,

Woofs, woofs, and woofs again to all of you that have sent me rosettes and wonderful, loving birthday greetings. Licks, love, paws, hugs, and wags to everyone.

~~ To Katy from your bio and human moms ~~

Thank you for the joy you bring to us. You are a special girl and lots of fun. You're growing up so fast and are getting smarter every day. We love you so.

Happy Woofday to our little girl. xoxoxo

My Short-Lived Play Toy

We had a little excitement around here last Monday morning. Lady and I barked half the night. Mom would check on us and I would be trying to climb up the tree. We had done this many times before and she has looked, but didn't see anything.

We came in the house about 6:30 a.m. and then about 7:00 a.m., we both went nuts at the back door barking furiously and wanting to get out. Mom opened the door before she looked, and we both charged at some huge ball of fur with a long tail that was playing dead.

The first thing Lady did was "fetch it". Mom told her to "drop", and she did. I then pushed it around with my nose and just couldn't figure out this strange creature. For some reason, mom thinks times like these are for taking photos which she decided to do. One of them is posted on Lady's page.

She then decided to try to get Lady to pick it up again to take it outside of the fenced in yard and get it away from me, but Lady was told before to drop it and she wouldn't pick it up again. Mom then got the shovel and was going to pick it up and put it on the other side of the fence so I'd leave it alone.

Well, I decided it was playtime so I picked it up in my mouth and ran all over the yard with it. She couldn't catch me and I WOULDN'T drop it. I wore myself out running in the warm weather and then I'd set it down and lie right beside it. This was my new play thing and I wanted it!! Every time mom tried to get it, I'd repeat the same play time shenanigans.

She finally gave up and she guesses later I fell asleep and the "playing dead" possum made its way out of our yard. Well, needless to say, it hasn't been back and guess it's chosen another tree to spend it's time because we haven't seen it since.

I'm glad it decided to play dead because if it hadn't, it may have decided to get really mean with us as mom said they are pretty feisty creatures. One thing is for certain, Mom is really glad it wasn't a skunk.

Well, that's my story of our excitement, but one really had to be there to appreciate all the commotion. BOL!!

On Lady's page, there is a photo of us looking at the possum.

1,000 VIEWS TODAY

Woof!

Today my page shows that I've had 1,000 views since my mom registered me on dogster. That's pretty cool! I wish I knew who took the 1,000th peek at my page on this special day as I'd send him or her tons of bones.

I'm thankful to all who have visited my page, sent me bones and rosettes, emailed kind barks to me, and for being my friends. It's so much fun to have friends in the U.S.A. as well as other countries in the world.

I love dogster!

Huge Chew Toy ~ A Wisteria Stump

February 18th 2006 6:30 pm

I just don't understand why my mom doesn't let me bring the Wisteria stump in the house. I'm the one who dug it out of the ground and as long as I run as fast as I can around the yard with it or chew on it while in the yard, I don't hear, "NO!!" Well, tonight with a temperature of about 28 degrees, it was way to cold to stay outside for long.

When I asked to go outside to use the grass (BOL!!) and tried to come back into the house with the stump, Mom was ready for my shenanigans. I tried my hardest to bring that dirty thing into the house. I would drop it and play like I was going to leave it outside and then when she opened the door, I would quickly grab it once again in my jaws and before I knew it, she shut the door and I was on the other side of the glass! Grrrr!

This is hard to admit, but I think my mom is getting smarter every day, and she's pretty quick too!!

Anyway, this went on for about four sliding glass door closes right in my face. How totally rude! Then I had a brilliant idea. I came in when she opened the door, turned around quickly, and grabbed that stump. Shucks! It worked last time I tried that and I ended up with it in the house for a little while anyway. This time, it didn't work. Mom really is getting almost as fast as I am.

One thing mom thinks is strange is this: Why would I want that stump in the house again? The last time it happened, she brought out that noisy and obnoxious vacuum cleaner to clean up the dirt it left behind and I am terrified of that dumb machine. She just can't figure out my reasoning on some things. I guess I don't even know the answer to that; all I knew tonight is that I wanted to gnaw on that crazy stump.

Mom, you may have won the "battle of the stump", but keep your writing pens, important papers, and pot holders out of my reach or they'll be HISTORY!! You know there are just some things I can't resist!!

Yummy People Treat....Pop, Pop, Pop

My mom is on a popcorn eating kick lately. The first time she started up that air popper, I was a bit frightened of the noise and definitely kept my distance. Then the noisy popping sound started and that was very strange to me too.

After all the loudness was over and she gave Lady and me samples, I was in 7th Heaven. That's pretty good stuff; we love it! Sometimes I think human snacks are better than ours.

Now every time we hear that motor starting, we run to the kitchen and stand patiently waiting for it to be finished. Sometimes while it's popping, it flies out of the machine, misses the bowl, and lands on the floor. Now that's a cool game in itself.

It's fun to eat and fun to catch!

Thanks, Mom!

P.S. Once I wasn't sitting and waiting like I was supposed to for mom to give me some popcorn. I made a fast charge at the bowl that was on mommy's lap. Oops! I guess I shouldn't have done that but every Houla needs to be naughty now and then. I got a big mouthful of the yummy stuff though. BOL!!

Too Warm For December 3, 2005

I guess I should be glad it is still warm but for goodness sakes, it is 90 degress on December 3 and that is a little ridiculous.

Mom decided to clean the house today so I should be glad it wasn't cold because when she cleans, Lady and I stay outside so we (well, really I) won't be in the way. I love to try to grab the broom or mop but when she yanks out the vacuum cleaner, I'm outta here!! I hate that thing!

I had a good day letting the squirrels know it was my yard and not their yard. I chased several up our huge Live Oak tree and stirred up some dust while doing so because I run so very fast. I know they must realize I'm the boss, but they still keep coming around finding and then hiding acorns. Whatever, but I think it would make more sense if they'd hide them on the other side of the fence rather than in my yard. :o)
