Double Paw HIGH FIVE
Parker was found tied to a bench in Queens N.Y. with a tow truck chain! He was about one year old, maybe 45 lbs. and scared. He was taken in by Loving Touch Animal Rescue. We decided to foster him until he was ready to be adopted. He collapsed twice in the first week we had him and nearly died. He seemed to have a weak heart. We thought he might need a pacemaker. Loving Touch held fundraisers to help pay for his medical expenses. We took him to a specialist who determined that because the heart is basically just another muscle, it had been too weak to keep beating. But because he was getting good nutrition from us, his heart was improving. Parker's heart wasn't just physically sick, it was emotionally sick too. It was broken! He was terrified of every human being. Except babies, he loves babies! After living with us and our three other dogs for 5 months, Parker was ready to find his forever home. Or was he? Parker went to live with a nice family who loved him. But he didn't make the transition. He missed his foster family. Parker returned to us and we decided to keep him forever!!! Parker is now a full fledged member of the family and is closest to his human daddy and his canine brother Bogey, but loves his entire family!
Did someone say it\\\'s dinnertime?

This is Parker's Daddy. Parker was my Heart Dog. All of my dogs have a very special place in my heart. But Parker and I had a special bond. I was not the first human to be kind to him. The lady who found him tied to a park bench with a heavy chain was the first kind human, as was her son and husband who freed him fro the bench. But I was the first human who showed him love, and he never forgot that. When that family freed him, they brought him to another park where we having a fundraising event for a rescue group. I had Tucker with me to get a microchip. Se he and Tucker met that day and made fast friends. The rescue group said they would take this young Rottie in. The family who freed him asked for help getting Parker in their car. He was terrified of cars at the time. After many tries, I got him into their car. I then leaned into the car and pet him gently. He was terrified ! I told him that he did not need to be scared anymore. I promised him that there would be no more hurt. I told him that he was going to be taken care of and I would make sure of it, and I kissed him on the head. He believed me. To say Thank You, he weakly lifted his head and licked my nose. I almost cried for him right then.
I was the one who went to visit him at the boarding facility and took him for walks around the neighborhood. He was terrified of Everything ! But over time, he learned to trust me and he became unafraid. It took him a long time to overcome his fear of the car. But eventually he came to love car rides, especially when I took him for rides in the old Buick. That was his favorite car.
There is a saying " I wish I was half the person my dog thinks I am." Well that holds true for me and Parker. He worshiped his Daddy. I wish I was one tenth the person that Parker thought I was. :)
I miss my little Parky Parks everyday. :((
I know Parker has had a lot of influence on Diesel. I can tell by his personality and his mannerisms and they both loved to play a game I call Chop Chop. I use my hand and open and close it like a mouth. They would lay on my lap and I would hold my hand up high and make it bite as it got close to them, and they both react the same way. They get excited as my hand gets closer. Then my hand bites them on the snout, or they try to bite my hand first. That is quality time with my boys.
