Arrival Story:
I adopted Honey from the rescue group HAPPE(http://www.happepets.org) when she was about 6-8 years old. Honey is exactly what I asked for- she is all love, all the time. She loves sleeping on her dog bed (OK, she'd prefer the couch, but she likes her dog bed) and chasing tennis balls thrown by her Dad. I suspect she's part cat from the way she stretches when she wakes up (front paws waaaay out, butt in the air) and her habit of napping in all the good sun beams. She enjoys meeting new people on her walks and dreams of someday catching an elusive possum or squirrel. She snores. She thumps her tail when I sing to her or walk into the room. Being an older dog, she arrived with some interesting habits and unexplained fears. (Someone taught her to sit on her haunches and offer both front paws- I told her she didn't have to do that if she didn't want to and she eventually stopped.) She's afraid of thunderstorms and metal grates in sidewalks. She did turn out to have some health problems (arthritis and a possible food allergy) which took a while to sort out. Since her human father and I also have chronic illnesses, this is not a problem. What's frightening is how close she came to euthanasia. Thank you to Althea, who works at the shelter & begged Tracey to come and get her. Thank you to Tracey, who had several fosters and took Honey in anyway. Thank you to HAPPE, which rescues hundreds of dogs like Honey every year. Thank you to Honey, for introducing me to HAPPE (I've been a volunteer ever since) and for bringing more fur, slobber and love into my life.

I watch people flock to the puppies at the HAPPE adoption stands and see how much longer it takes to place the adult dogs. Please do consider adopting an older pet- they're housebroken (or very close), through the chewing-everything-in-sight stage, calmer and have tons of love to give. I don't know how long I'll have Honey in my life (4 years so far!), but I'm very grateful she's here. Update: I had to let Honey go in 2007 when her health declined dramatically. She will always have a place in my heart.

For all of our pals out there please feel free to copy and paste this message and spread the word to Dogster/Catster that we would like to see Gizmo and Luke set free. FREE GIZMO (and Luke)!!!!!

I told her not to rush, but she was tired and needed to come here.

She's one of my oldest friends on Dogster.

She had 12 good years on Earth with her Mom and Dad. Her Dad is already here- they look very happy to be together again...

This is Buffy's page if you want to comfort her Mom:
