Arrival Story: We were getting a dog to watch the property (we are kind of in the country). Husband wanted to get one from a kennel in PA where he had bought a BLUE AND RUST female dobie in the past from. So we had Sky shipped to us by air. Unfortunately they lost her in the Austin airport. We were supposed to pick her up and they couldn't find her. Finally they found her (whew)! Sky was wet and shivering from her water bowl spilling and I am sure some puppy accidents. I felt so sorry for the miserable and scary trip she must have had. I could not imagine what was going through her mind. We already had a male doberman so Sky felt somewhat threatened. But Sky soon let him know who was truly Alpha.

Bio: Sky and Dusty were going to be bred at some point in time. Once we had settled a little more were we just moved to outside Austin TX. But we were switching pens or something when they were about 1 yr during Feb or March of 1996 and that is all she wrote. They got together WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION! So, Sky became a young mother of 6 blue and 4 fawn dobies. The puppies were so cute, a big handfull after a few weeks though. Wow! We work all day, so we would get up fix the puppies eggs and cottage cheese or moistened puppy food, then wipe down 10 puppies- they get messy!! Then do it again in the evening. Besides cleaning up the room the puppies were sequestered in. Then of course you have to play with puppies. It was exhausting for us and Sky. We let our friends have one of the fawn male puppies and we kept Sandy the one fawn female.
Sky was getting up in age, we weren't sure how long she would make winter of 2004. She developed a problem with mobility. She couldn't get up, she would just lie around outside, getting really skinny. We kept Sky inside, keeping her close to food and water. The vet said it may look like she has a CYST IN or ON HER SPINAL CORD. Then my husbands brother came to stay with us for awhile and watched Sky during the day. Sky eventually learned how to get around despite the cyst. VERY SMART DOG. We built her a ramp to get onto the porch, Sky could not lift her legs that high to use the steps. When Sky was running around the yard she had to be careful not to get too rambuncious or her back legs would give out underneath and she would fall. We knew Sky was getting better when she wanted to go after our cats in the house. That was a sign of improvement for Sky. So she was on "semi-active duty" for another 4 years before it was time. What a trooper. Even when she was having mobility issues she still went after a copperhead snake during October 2006 and made it through that! What a tough protector! Date of birth: 5-14-95

Because it's Christmas time there are changes to the rules. Each player needs to write a short note to Santa Paws and list 5 things on their Christmas list this year. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their letter with 5 requests. Then choose 5 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play. AND... since it's Christmastime give them each 5bones or treats.
Here's my Letter to Santa Paws :-)
