ME! He loves being the only guy in my life.
Having his nails clipped.
Squeaky balls from PetSmart (and yes, he's neutered)
McDonald's French Fries
Playing hide and seek in the house
Gimme a kiss.
I rescued his mom (Liebe) from L.A.'s East Valley Shelter in 1997. She went out on a date without permission in her first heat at 8 months old before she was spayed. Two months later she was a teenage mom with a litter of three. The guardians of the dad took one male pup, and I kept the other two (Alpha and Omega). I lost Liebe to kidney failure in 2001, and lost Omega to lymphosarcoma in 2003. Alpha is my pride and joy now! He wants you to know that I'm single and although he'd hate having to share his half of the king sized bed, he'd gladly make room for the right guy.
I have decided that Alpha is a new breed known as a Shepradorkita (emphasis on "dork"). Although he primarily looks like a Black Lab, his parents' Shepherd traits are apparent... but strangely, he has a curly tail like an Akita, and an oversized rib cage like a Rottweiler (which Omega resembled more than any other breed).
Alpha was diagnosed with hip dysplasia before he was a year old. If I could afford the surgery, I would get him hip replacements so that he'd have better mobility and less pain. He's also on medication for being hypothyroid.
A few years ago he overdosed himself on a bottle of yummy chewable liver-flavored Rimadyl and was rushed to the hospital. Due to severe separation anxiety, he tried to chew his way out of the cage and broke/lost teeth, needing a root canal not long thereafter.
He also seems to have an interest in hunting animals which come into the backyard... you can imagine the rest.
When I leave the house, if I don't lock the kitchen garbage in the bathroom, Alpha will rummage through it. I can't seem to break him of this terrible habit.
I will admit he has a terrific life. Three doggie beds, a dog door for in/out privileges as much as wants. He's allowed onto the couch, and takes up most of the king size bed every night.
Alpha is truly a blessing in my life and I thank dog every day that I have him!
