Likes: Spending time with her "Mom" and "Dad". She loves going out on the boat in the summer. She jumps in the water and climbs up the ladder to get back in the boat all by herself!!! I can't leave out chasing the laser light!
Pet-Peeves: # 1. RAZZBERRIES on the belly!!! #2.Not getting ALL the attention! #3. Not getting to chase the laser light. #4.Being left alone.
Favorite Toy: Dog Baby, which she picked out the day we adopted her. All other stuffed toys have been destuffed! Did I mention the laser light?!?!?!
Favorite Food: Anything Mom cooks!
Favorite Walk: Around the neighborhood.
Best Tricks: I tell her to go tell Dad that supper is ready and she goes and bumps him, then comes back to the kitchen. She will sit, shake, lay down, roll over, spin around all in a row in anticipation of what we are going to ask of her.
Arrival Story: We had been without our own dog over a year after losing our yellow lab, Sandy at 14 years old and decided it was time to get another dog. We went to the shelter to get a different puppy we had seen on petfinder, but Bailey chose us by jumping in my lap and giving me a big smooch on the mouth. She is living life to the fullest considering she had to have CPR when she was a tiny pup!!! She has put a lot of spark in our lives!
Bio: Bailey has a cat brother, Scooter (RIP November 2007), and a bunny sister, Isabelle (RIP November 2008). She has a human brother (David) and sister (Shannon) who are away at college (they have now graduated). Shannon has a dog named Trooper. They have lots of fun when Trooper visits! Bailey has her own life jacket for boating. Climbing the ladder to get back in the boat is hard for us, but she has mastered it her first summer on the river. Other boaters have stopped just to watch her. I wish I had video or a photo of her climbing, but we never remembered to take the camera with us. Maybe next summer. She will sit on the back of the boat with my husband and wait for me to count to three and they jump in the water at the same time. Bailey always beats him back into the boat.
At one year old, Bailey now has a strip of white fur on the under side of her tail, which she keeps curled up all the time. We think it looks kinda like a skunk.
I love going to the river or lake and playing in the water!!! I don't like this heat!!! I'm glad I am an "inside" doggie! It has been sooo hot here in Alabama. The last two days have been 100 degrees with heat index a few degrees higher. Mom says that the air is more like a steam room and it is hard for us to breathe outside. We get up very early to take our walk before it gets so hot that we can't be outside for more than a few minutes.
Mom hasn't been able to keep up with dogster lately because we've had so much going on. We even lost our subscription to PLUS because she was away and so busy that she didn't get the chance to renew it. She would love to renew it, but just hasn't had the $$$ or the time to work on a new Plus page.
Here's what been going on:
We did get to go to the beach for Labor Day weekend and had lots of fun! Trooper got to go, too with his mom and new dad.
On September 12, Papaw (Mom's father) had a heart attack. He was in three different hospitals and finally at UAB in Birmingham, AL he had triple bypass surgery. The hospital is about an hour from where we live, and Mom had to stay overnight some with him. I was not happy about that! Mommy is usually around most of the time and I really missed her! Of course, we have friends that were nice enough to come by and let me out and play some. Papaw is still having problems with a slow heart rate, being dizzy and shortness of breath. They were going to replace a valve in his heart during the bypass, but decided at 80 years old the risk of doing that was greater than not doing it. They probably should have done the valve when they did the bypass because he says that he will NOT have open- heart surgery again. He had more tests today, but they say there isn't anything else wrong. Mamaw (Mom's mother) was also in the hospital during part of this time in a different city from where Papaw was. That was hard on Mom and the family.
Then, in the middle of October Daddy started having pains in his chest. He went to the hospital and they kept him overnight. They said that his heart is okay and the pains are probably spasms of the esophagus. They said that it would act kinda like a heart attack because they use the same nerves. I am so glad he didn't have to go through what Papaw did!
And now, my kitty brother, Scooter passed on to the Rainbow Bridge on November 13, 2007. He was 15 1/2 years old. We all miss him!
