Arrival Story:
Growing up, I always LOVED dogs. One of my favorite pictures (of all time) is of one where my sister and I are petting a couple of random pugs that we saw on the street. Since then, I took every opportunity to see dogs and go to pet shops, thinking that if I threw enough temper tantrums (I can recall at least 5 really good ones), my parents would give in and get me a dog. But it never worked. So I always knew that when I moved out and had some stability in my lifestyle, I'd get a puppy. Even having moved out of my parents house for a few years, I had to delay getting a dog because of my transient lifestyle (working, moving every 3 months)...but recently I found myself at a juncture where I could choose to be grounded in one place for a while. However, even getting Ellie was unplanned. The weekend I got her, I had had a trip to Florida planned...but moved it so I could instead take the trip in December. Then I was supposed to spend the day in Vancouver, BC with my sister, which fell through only the night before. Randomly, my cousin Linda and I decide to grab lunch...then to visit the breeder her dog was from. I even told her that I'm the 'biggest buyer' and to not let me buy a puppy! For the longest time, I imagined I'd get a male long-haired chihuhua and even had a name picked out for 'him.' When I saw the chihuahuas, I didn't feel a connection to any of them...you know, that feeling where you know it's the RIGHT one? The one you want to personally raise...and want to see grow up? Excited to find out she had poms, I asked her to bring em out...and I totally fell in love with the dog that is now known as Ellie. (I guess this shows you can't choose who you fall in love with :) She had the most defined, rare, pretty markings (black and tan) and reminded me of a little teddy bear. She was adorable and feisty too. As much as I wanted to take her home that day, I knew that I had to really think about it...considering the fact that I may have to be separated from her for 3.5 months in the summertime. I stayed up late doing pom research and even considering girl names before deciding on whether I was going to get her or not. And the rest is history. She is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time.
