Likes: My three boyfriends, my pup pals on Dogster, my brother Scout, cuddling in between mom and dad in bed on my back under the covers, butt rubs, tummy cuddles, gnawing on Scout, going to the vet, giving kisses...and I LOVE lots of attention!
Pet-Peeves: The UPS truck, the pizza dude, BSL, the neighbor's trash cans, being on a diet (grrrrrrrrrrrrr!), someone touching my two back feet, cheese shortages, puppy nightmares, and when no one is paying attention to me.
Favorite Toy: My beach ball! Yay!! My beach ball! I swim in a circle around mom in the pool just like a shark to get it out of her hands and when I finally get it I POP it! Woo-hoo!!
Favorite Food: Pretty much anything except bananas. I LOVE ice cream, cheese, broccoli, lettuce, edamame, pinto beans and baby carrots.
Favorite Walk: Outside...anywhere outside. Can we go outside? Please? Can we? Outside!!!
Best Tricks: I can spell, sit, shake (south paw), high five (right), pray to the doggie gods, lay down, roll over, be a dead dog, crawl on my belly, and I eat an ear of corn the way people do; one paw on each end as I nibble the kernels. Yum!!
Arrival Story: It took 37 years to find Magnolia and when I woke up on Tuesday, September 17th, 2002, I felt that this was the day I'd find her. I went to the AZ Humane Society's Sunnyslope shelter and met with three or four dogs...none of which could have given two hoots about me. A shelter worker suggested I go to the AHS's south shelter and search the hundreds of dogs there...so I did. I found two I wanted to meet. Met the boy and loved him but he considered me nothing more than a PPV (potential peeing victim). So I gave the tech the kennel number for the beautiful brown-eyed sweetness I'd seen and we went to fetch her. The three of us then walked to the interview room. Once there, I had crossed my legs on my way down to sit on the floor and this 40 pound mix of Lab and something was fully in my lap, staring me in the eyes and kissing me like I've never been kissed before. I knew in less than a heartbeat as I looked into her eyes that she was my dog. And I swear to this day I heard a voice say, "This is the one...take her home"... so I did. Since that moment she's been my companion, my best friend, my sister, my daughter, my mother, my teacher, my comic relief, the pain in my butt and the sole reason for my existence now for five years. We've been through hell together but she is my heart and my life and my joy.
Bio: Magnolia's previous humans had severely abused her. She had been kicked and hit, and she was 15 pounds underweight. In addition, she had given birth to a litter of puppies and the previous owners decided when the puppies were only four weeks old they didn't want her anymore...just the pups. So they kept the puppies but dropped her off at the AZ Humane Society's Sunnyslope shelter as if she was disposable. I'm grateful they did because they took her to the shelter on Saturday, September 14th, then on Sunday the 15th the AHS shuttled her to the south shelter, then on Monday the 16th she was spayed and on Tuesday morning, September 17th, she was placed in a kennel for adoption. One hour later I walked in and found her. Divine intervention? Unequivocally!!! We were meant for each other!
Forums Motto: God Speed to The Bridge dearest Sammy J!
Fun fact about Magnolia: I love to go to the vet! I love Dr. Berthiaume and the whole staff at Adobe Animal Hospital in Scottsdale so much that getting a shot, probed, surgeried, etc. is nothing compared to the joy I feel when I'm there. Dr. B. is my hero! In fact sometimes, when I'm being stubborn and won't listen, mom asks if I "want to go see Dr. Berthiaume?" and I'll stop whatever I'm doing and run to the garage door. It's evil, I say, and it gets me every time. Grrrrrrrrr!
Peaceable Kingdom: In addition to my brother Scout, I have two bunnies, Belle and Baby Porkchop, and a cockatiel named Sir Chirps A. Lot.
My mantra in life: Proud to be a mutt and a shelter dog!!! ADOPTION IS THE ONLY REAL OPTION!!! Choose to adopt and spay/neuter your pets...please!!!!!
Run out, quick, and get the January/February edition of The Bark magazine. Go to 'smiling dogs' and you'll see me cuddled up with my daddy. Hooray!!! Mom's gotta go get a bajillion copies to send to family and friends around the country because this is a once-in-a-lifetime honor and I feel so blessed! Thank you Claudia at The Bark!!!
It's been a while since mom's been up to taking dogtation but this weekend she feels will be the perfect time to reconnect with all our pals on Dogster. As you all know, we lost my brother, Baby Porkchop, three weeks ago and it's been really, really hard for mom and Belle. Stubby and I are doing everything we can to make them feel better and hopefully smile again but right now it's still too hard. Mom keeps saying her heart hurts and won't stop aching. However, she said that she is so thankful for all the love and support pups and their pawrents have shared with us. She said that has helped so much and that given the Thanksgiving holiday, it is the perfect time to recognize all the wonderful things that each of you do for so many here in our little Dogster world.
So...we'll be back online this weekend and we will thank each and every one of you properly. Until then...thank you ever so much for the generosity, kindness and love you have all shown us during this sad time. If not for each of you, we don't know if mom and Belle could have made it through this. You are all angels!!!!
Mom ordered a beautiful urn for Baby's ashes. Engraved on the urn will be:
My Beloved Baby
Such a very special soul
Forever in my heart
Happy funny kissy bunny
We're picking Baby's ashes up tomorrow. It will be nice to finally have him "home".
We all love you Baby!!!! Our hearts ache because you're no longer here to make us laugh, give us kisses and to light up each moment of our lives. No matter what you will always be with us...in our hearts and our thoughts...and we will love you forever and miss you every moment of every day!!!!
