Arrival Story:
Marian and I headed to the flea market on a windy, frigid day in December 1989 to visit a friend's craft booth. It was empty, so we walked around for a while. We walked down an aisle and came across a couple who were giving puppies away. Who could resist picking up a puppy? Marian picked up one, but it was a male. ‘No! They pee on everything!’ The next was a female and Marian decided we could give it to another friend that lost his pet of 18 years. To make a very long story short, this puppy found a home and it wasn’t with our friend. Kingsley, Marian’s purebred German Shepherd, was not pleased at our bringing this mutt home, but she accepted Avis, as she came to be named.
