 Quick Bio:
Likes: Playing w/ new sister Isabella, sitting on laps-- and looking lovingly into their eyes! He loves to have his chest scratched and will paw at you until you do it. Then he looks all moony while you do it! Heaven! And to sleep in his "nest" (see photo)

Pet-Peeves: Having his rump touched or patted. Or touching his feet unless he is sleepy. The dreaded vacuum cleaner, and Phoebe the cat who dares to walk across the room. The mailman. Squirrels. THUNDER!!

Favorite Toy: His "baby", his "puppy", his rope or his purple sock (he uses it like a rope!). He also adores squeeky toys! the noisier the better.

Favorite Food: Anything you graciously give him, and anything he can steal. Cat food. He loves greenies, black olives, popcorn and oranges too. But he'll chew on about anything with permission. Pig Ears and Pork chop bones are his favorite. And milkbones. Mmm

Favorite Walk: Escaping the house and running all over the mountain we live on. If on a leash, anywhere you take him. He LOVES walkies!

Best Tricks: Catching food in his mouth, laying flat from the hips down, singing, sitting still

Arrival Story: Just after moving to Tazewell County, we went to the Animal Shelter, as my husband wanted to look for a new addition to our mountain home. This surprised me a great deal for he has never owned a dog, and has always considered himself a "cat person."Â I called the shelter in the morning and asked about housebroken dogs, and was told there was one. Only one. A female shepherd mix, "less than knee high."Â So, off we went in search of my husband's new best friend.
We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of horrible smell that one normally finds in an animal shelter, but then we discovered it was only in the office area that the smell was less offensive. We visited the cat section first, which made it most difficult for us because we wanted to take ALL of them! I especially wanted the all smoky-grey colored one who reached for me through the bars every time I got near. But we had come for a dog not a cat. In fact, we'd seen the animal shelter's adoption board at Wal-Mart only the day before, and saw a beagle that looked so adorable, which is what led to me making the call to the shelter yesterday morning.
We found the small, female shepherd mix, and while she looked really friendly, she just didn’t pull at our heartstrings any more than any of the other dogs, which was a lot! When I asked hubby about her, he said, "no, she's not the one. I'll know it when I see it." Â
Then he saw it, which turned out to be a him. A beautiful year-old beagle who had the kindest eyes and sweetest disposition and was small enough to fit comfortably on hubby's lap when needed. This was The One. Although we kept looking, hubby was drawn again and again to this One, so that was that and we had us a dog. Spencer is his name, and he was ever so ready to go with us in the car and off to new worlds to explore.
Spencer weighs about 25 pounds, maybe less, and loves to be stroked and spoken to in loving tones. We went straightaway to the Farm Bureau to find Spence some accessories that he'd need immediately, such as a leash, food bowl, and most importantly, flea drops! He smelled terrible, and we couldn't wait to get him home to a bath, but first things first. Dave took Spencer on his makeshift rope leash into the store and inquired about taking a dog inside. The clerks casually glanced at the two and said it was fine. The two of them have been inseparable ever since, except when hubby is teaching, and Spencer is at MY side.
Around these parts, beagles are kept in barrels outside, for hunting. We remind him that he could be "sleeping in a barrel" when he gets too uppity. They are also called "rabbit beagles" here, but he is so scared of loud noises he'd never make it as a hunting dog. (good!)

Bio: He is a wonderful bath-taker! He has to have his mommy-daddy time in the bed. At night, he wiggles up between us and "lets" us stroke him and sweet talk him. When the lights go out, he jumps down to his nest. He is adorable, we love him to pieces. I am hard of hearing so he helps keep me up on all the strange noises. He is soooo melodious in his baying and barking! He is much beloved, and adores both his mama and daddy. He loves to lay on his daddy's lap every evening. He also likes to play chase with his favorite kitty, Alice. She likes to clean his face. Because Phoebe, the back-up cat, is scared of him he chases her the most.
